Wright State Dance Ensemble offers spring concert and student workshop

The Wright State Dance Ensemble’s Spring Dance Concert takes place in the Festival Playhouse in the Creative Arts Center April 18–21.

Wright State University Dance Ensemble will hold its Spring Dance Concert and offer its annual Dance Intensive Workshop for high school students.

The 2013 Spring Dance Concert will feature several world premieres and guest performances by Dayton Ballet II and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II.

Performances take place in the Festival Playhouse in the Creative Arts Center on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m.

The concert includes premieres of three works by Wright State dance faculty: “Exits,” choreographed by Teressa Wylie McWilliams, coordinator and associate professor; “In Between the Dark and the Light,” choreographed by Assistant Professor Gina Walthe; and “Mother of the Universe,” choreographed by Assistant Professor Justin Gibbs.

Performances will also include “Clairvoyance,” choreographed by Kiesha Lalama, associate professor at Point Park University; and the Prologue of “Sleeping Beauty,” which guest choreographer Michelle Goodman, Wright State faculty associate, has restaged in honor of Jon Rodriguez, associate professor emeritus of dance. In addition, the concert will feature guest works by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II and Dayton Ballet II.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and can be purchased by calling the Theatre Box Office at (937) 775-2500. Tickets go on sale April 15.

Dance Intensive Workshop for high school students

Wright State will offer a Dance Intensive Workshop for high school students on April 20.

Wright State University will offer the sixth annual Dance Intensive Workshop for high school students on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

The workshop, open to students 14 and older, will provide technique classes on jazz, tap, modern, ballet, Rockette Precision dance, hip-hop and lyrical. Participating faculty members include Teressa Wylie McWilliams, Gina Walther, Justin Gibbs, Greg Hellems and Joe Deer.

The workshop costs $45. Each participant will receive a complimentary ticket to the Spring Dance Concert.
