Head of musical theatre initiatives directing show in London

Joe Deer

Joe Deer, distinguished professor of musical theatre, director—musical theatre initiative and Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence  winner for 2013—directs and choreographs The Baker’s Wife at London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama for their graduate music theatre program with a cast of 20 international students from England, China, Chile, US, Australia, Ireland, Scotland and Argentina. The production, which opens May 20, will perform at Central’s Embassy Theatre for an audience of London producers, agents and casting professionals, as well as a general audience.

This project is a high point in professor Deer’s professional development leave and is made possible, in part, with support from Wright State’s College of Liberal Arts and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.

While in England, Deer is conducting additional workshops at the University of Manchester and doing research on modes of musical theatre training in the United Kingdom.
