Robert L. Mott Jr. named medical director of CTRA

Robert L. Mott Jr.

Robert L. Mott Jr., M.D., has been named medical director of the Wright State University and Premier Health Clinical Trials Research Alliance (CTRA).

Mott is a board-certified preventive medicine physician and retired U.S. Army colonel with 22 years of experience in population medicine, medical education, research, policy development, international health, corporate medicine and medical leadership.

As medical director of CTRA, he is responsible for oversight of CTRA clinical research activities including clinical trials at Premier Health hospital campuses, practice sites of Wright State Physicians and additional community clinic locations. He also is a clinical associate professor of population and public health at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mott to the CTRA team,” said Margaret Dunn, M.D., dean of the Boonshoft School of Medicine. “With his expertise in preventive medicine and public health, he will greatly enhance CTRA’s ability to advance medical knowledge and accelerate translational research.”

CTRA conducts clinical trials throughout Southwest Ohio in a variety of health care areas. The public-private initiative was founded in 2012 by Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State Research Institute and Premier Health.

Before joining CTRA, Mott was the associate medical director for North America at Procter and Gamble Corporation. Previously, he served as the global medical leader of baby and feminine care at Procter and Gamble.

Throughout his Army career, he has served in various roles with the Office of the Secretary of Defense; Office of the Army Surgeon General; Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Corps Surgeon’s Office, U.S. Forces-Iraq; Coalition Provisional Authority for Iraq; 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Mott earned his M.D. at Wright State University School of Medicine in 1990. He continued his medical training at Madigan Army Medical Center, where he completed a transitional internship. He earned a Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and completed his residency in preventive medicine at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D.C. He is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and a member of the American Medical Association.
