University Wellness to host Employee Wellness Festival

Office yoga

Scheduled for May 13, the Wright State Employee Wellness Festival will offer exercise sessions, wellness information, health assessments, food samples, chair massages and prizes.

Wright State faculty and staff are invited to the second annual Employee Wellness Festival, where they will have the opportunity to relax, exercise and learn about methods of exercise and meditation.

The festival is Wednesday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Apollo Room of the Student Union.

The festival is designed to provide information and show our employees about health care practitioners in the local community, said Peggy Bloom, director of university wellness.

Forty local health partners and community vendors will be on hand, including IMPACT Solutions, which will provide information on the employee assistance, and Anthem, offering real-time enrollment in LiveHealth Online Program, which provides online nonemergency acute doctor visit services. An Anthem Medical Insurance ID is required to enroll.

Attendees may receive mini-fit assessments assessing body composition, muscular fitness and flexibility and participate in the new “office workout” between 10 and 2 p.m. or office yoga, scheduled at 11 and 1 p.m.

Forty local health partners and community vendors will provide information during the festival.

Also in attendance will be three holistic health practitioners who specialize in meditation, Ayurveda, an ancient healing method from India that uses natural medicines, and somatic therapy.

The festival will offer food samples, wellness information, corn hole golf, free chair massages and prizes, including gift baskets, gift cards, Nike Fitbits, pedometers and a grand prize basket.

Bloom hopes that employees will get away from the office, socialize and explore the festival, learning something new about alternative methods of healing or becoming acquainted with local medical services that they may have not been aware of before.

She encourages Wright State employees to get out of their chairs and move for a few minutes at least once an hour, eat a balanced meal while practicing moderation and portion control, eat away from their desks and walk at least 30 minutes a day.

About 400 people are expected to attend this year’s festival.

“I’m looking forward to people coming out, participating, having fun and learning something about health that they can put into use immediately,” said Bloom.

The festival is opened to Wright State faculty, staff and student employees.
