Israeli doctor to speak about treating Syrian civil war victims

Arie Eisenman is the head of internal medicine in the emergency department of Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, Israel.

An Israeli doctor will speak about treating Syrian casualties in Israel on Wednesday, June 28, at 7 p.m. in the Gandhi Auditorium of White Hall at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

The presentation, “Building Bridges: Treating Syrian Casualties in Israel,” is part of the Wright State University Medicine and the Holocaust Community Seminar. The event is co-sponsored by the Boonshoft School of Medicine, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton and Partnership2Gether of Western Galilee Central Area Consortium.

Arie Eisenman, M.D., is the head of internal medicine in the emergency department of Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, Israel, which is six miles from Israel’s border with Lebanon and 30 miles from the Syrian border. Eisenman and his staff have provided medical care to more than 2,000 Syrians, who have been injured in the Syrian civil war, even though Syria considers Israel its enemy. The hospital has been recognized for representing the highest ethical principles and humane values for providing aid to the wounded Syrians. About one-third of the Syrians they have treated are women and children under the age of 18.

The Wright State University Medicine and the Holocaust Community Seminar series is an outgrowth of the Medicine and the Holocaust course for fourth-year students at the Boonshoft School of Medicine.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. For more information, call Karen Steiger at 937-610-1555.
