Raiders hosting Horizon League baseball championship tournament

After winning the Horizon League regular season title, the Wright State baseball team is hosting the league championship tournament May 23–26 at Nischwitz Stadium.

This is Wright State’s ninth regular season conference title since 1992 and sixth Horizon League title. It is the first regular season title for head coach Jeff Mercer. The Raiders last won regular season and tournament titles in 2016, when they advanced to the NCAA tournament for the seventh time.

“Winning the conference regular season is a great accomplishment that puts us in a better position to achieve our ultimate goal of returning to the NCAA tournament,” Mercer said.  “The conference tournament will be difficult and competitive, as it always is, but the opportunity to host will allow us to be more comfortable while showcasing our terrific university.”

The 2018 tournament opens Wednesday, May 23, with No. 4 Oakland playing No. 5 Youngstown State at noon, followed by No. 3 Milwaukee against No. 6 Northern Kentucky at 4 p.m.

As the tournament’s No. 1 seed, the Raiders will play their first game of the tournament on Thursday, May 24, at 11 a.m.

The semifinal games will be played Friday, May 25, at noon and 4 p.m. with the championship games slated on Saturday, May 26, at noon and, if necessary, 4 p.m.
