Dayton Daily News: Wright State starts coronavirus relief campaign to help students

Excerpt

To help students facing financial, health and safety issues during the coronavirus outbreak, Wright State University started the Student Emergency Relief Campaign.

Created through the Wright State University Foundation, the campaign aims to help students struggling with food, housing, lost wages, mental health, finances and education.

The campaign will support the following funds:

• Deedrick Student Support Fund: This fund is through the Office of Student Affairs and is the area with the greatest need. The fund helps with emergency needs that can impact their success as a student. The scope of the fund is being expanded in response to coronavirus and will help students with food, toiletries, supplies, funding for necessary medications and educational-related money for travel for students who may need to go home.

• Counseling and Wellness Services Fund: This fund goes toward counseling programs, helps purchase supplies and technology and helps other initiatives to support struggling students.

• Raider Food Pantry Fund: This fund helps purchase food items and groceries for students in need. Despite the university’s closure, the pantry is still open with limited hours to help the community.

• Remote Learning Support Fund: This fund supports educational-related expenses, such as equipment and software costs. With the university moving to remote classes during the pandemic, this fund has become a priority.

• Student Employment Relief Fund: This fund helps student employees whose jobs were effected by the move to remote learning.
