Outstanding NTE Faculty: Service

Bill Wood

Bill Wood

Bill Wood, a senior lecturer in the Department of Finance and Financial Services and coordinator of the Financial Services Degree Program, received the 2018–19 Award for Outstanding Non-Tenure Eligible Faculty: Service because of his leadership, commitment to excellence and willingness to help people.

Students rave about Wood’s willingness to go above and beyond for them to help them understand the material. One of Wood’s former students said he is “one of the best professors I’ve had at Wright State. His teachings will be beneficial to your life.”

Wood teaches several classes at Wright State but is well known outside of his department. He has spent many years as the faculty advisor of the Finance Club, which has provided students the opportunity to visit cities like Chicago and New York to experience real world opportunities in finance. He is also a student organization advisor for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and a committee member on the Wright State Core Assessment and Athletic Council.

Outside of Wright State, he serves the Dayton community as a member of Boy Scout Troop 516 and through his involvement with Consumer Credit Counseling of Dayton.

Prior to joining Wright State in 2001, Wood worked as a financial advisor and consultant for several companies and served as the vice president of hospital operations at Miami Valley Hospital. He has a B.S. in biology from the University of Texas and a M.S. in public administration from the University of Houston.

Wood’s commitment to serving his students and community is inspiring and admirable. “It is clear to me and I hope equally clear to the committee that Bill’s commitment to service is extraordinary and that we have all been the beneficiaries of his generosity,” said one of his peers.
