Facility/Capital Funds

Scholarships

  • The Cacioppo Endowed Scholarship was established in 1996 in honor and memory of Anthony J. Cacioppo, Ph.D., former chair of the Wright State Department of Biomedical and Human Factors Engineering, who passed away in 1996. Dr. Cacioppo came to Wright State with an impressive record of accomplishment including being chief scientist of Foreign Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. As a visiting professor in 1986, Dr. Cacioppo developed the Human Factors Engineering Program. His efforts in the program resulted in obtaining ABET accreditation in 1994. He received the ‘87-‘88 Teaching Excellence Award from the CECS, and became Department Chair in 1991, continuing to teach seven courses each year. The purpose is to provide scholarships for students majoring in Human Factors Engineering.
  • The Biomedical Engineering Scholarship was started in 1985 out of Campus Scholarship Campaign payroll deductions. The Scholarship is awarded by the Biomedical Engineering Program and given annually to students majoring in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Scholarships for incoming, undergraduate students pursuing any CECS degree.
  • Cary Michael Jokela grew up in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he graduated from Chamberlin High School. Cary entered Wright State in the fall of 1995 with a dream of becoming a biomedical engineer. He was active in Wright Engineering Council and intramural soccer. His too-short life is remembered but his friends for its vitality; he was always in search of fun and excitement. He was never known to be in a bad mood. The establishment of this scholarship in his honor and memory was made by Gregory Bartell, a close friend and Wright State student himself. It is a tribute and living memorial to Cary. Its purpose is to encourage promising young people to pursue an education within CECS and provide financial aid to make that possible.

  • Dean Emeritus James Brandeberry joined Wright State in 1969, two years after it became an independent state university. Before he retired in 2005, Dr. Brandeberry directed his efforts toward building outstanding programs in engineering and computer science for the Dayton metropolitan area, making education his top priority. Considered by many as the Godfather of CECS, the vision of excellence that Dr. Brandeberry promoted throughout his career will continue to grow and influence engineering and computer science education, not only in the Miami Valley, but the state of Ohio.

  • This scholarship was started in 2008 by Brian Joyce, a graduate degree holder from Wright State’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. Brian strongly benefitted from the DAGSI scholarship and, because of this positive influence, felt he should give to future students as well. Brian and Gail actively attend Wright State events and enjoy meeting their recipients annually. First preference is given to a student majoring in materials science and engineering.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

  • This fund was established to support the functions and purposes of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. 
  • This fund will support an annual award in the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB). The award will recognize the productivity and quality of a 4th year BMS Ph.D. program student working in BMB beyond that of their student peers in the program. The recipient will use funding from the award to attend a scientific meeting. Student nominees for the award (self or other nominated) will be reviewed by a selection committee for the award comprised of BMB faculty teaching in the BMS PhD program. If no recipient is named, no award will be made and available funds will be distributed in the future.

Biological Sciences

  • Provides funding to support and advance research and scholarly activity of the Laboratory of Scott Baird in the Dept. of Biological Sciences. Use of funds can include, but is not limited to, lab supplies, purchase of equipment, graduate student support, and travel for conferences and professional development activities.   • Dr. and Mrs. Schuster established this scholarship to assist students who are working toward a Doctor of Psychology degree in the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University. Preference will be given to candidates who are in good academic standing and who demonstrate financial need.
  • The School of Professional Psychology established this scholarship to honor the contributions and memory of Jimmy Lamar Johnson. The goal of the scholarship is to provide support for doctoral students who demonstrate the values that Dr. Johnson embodied. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed one year of doctoral studies and who generates creative solutions to problems, exercises effective leadership for change, and mentors others.
  • This scholarship fund, established in memoriam of Dr. Duke E. Ellis, was created specifically to assist African-American students in the School of Professional Psychology. This scholarship is limited to entering students and is intended to aid the recruitment of highly competitive students.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Earl Redman established the E. Scott Redman Scholarship Award at SOPP in memory of their son. The award recognizes a student who, like Scott, shows not only outstanding academic achievement but also demonstrates an unusually strong commitment to community service and the pursuit of high principles. Mr Redman has continue to support his son's legacy. The award goes to a student who demonstrates diverse interests, persists in overcoming life's potential obstacles and has a financial need or other special circumstances.
  • To provide additional funding annually to one or more doctoral students in the SOPP to pursue clinical training and professional development en route to serving as a military psychologist in the U.S. Armed Forces and/or students who have demonstrated service to a military population(s). Student going on internships are also eligible to apply for this scholarship. Financial need is not a prerequisite but may be considered in the selection process.
