New women\u2019s basketball player Zora Fray-Chinn has adjusted quickly to her new surroundings, after only arriving on Wright State University\u2019s campus a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The 5’11” guard from Orlando first needed to acclimate her body to the different climate. \u201cI\u2019m from Florida and the weather is very different, but I like it,\u201d said Fray-Chinn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She also needed to adapt to the increased speed of practices and a new coaching staff that didn\u2019t recruit her. \u201cThe pace of this college basketball game is completely different from high school,\u201d said Fray-Chinn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always a competition at practice,\u201d she said. \u201cWe can tell everyone loves the game and that\u2019s what we love about this team.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The women\u2019s basketball team has been working out four days a week and lifting weights to prepare for the 2021-2022 season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe are in the middle of team workouts,\u201d said Kari Hoffman who was named women\u2019s head basketball coach in May. \u201cWe are also doing a bunch of team bonding stuff because we\u2019re still learning each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In June, Hoffman finalized her coaching staff with three assistant coaches: John Leonzo, Megan Leuzinger and Patrick Bain. On July 16, her staff was completed with the addition of Abby Wolford as women\u2019s basketball director of operations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting with all of the new coaches, just learning about them and them learning about us,\u201d said Destyne Jackson, a sophomore guard who played on last year\u2019s team that won the Horizon League Championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. \u201cWorking to see how we\u2019re going to win another championship.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The team will add two transfer students to the roster near the end of August. \u201cWe\u2019ll have our whole team together in about a month,\u201d said Hoffman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Hoffman is pleased with the team and says the players have been receptive to the staff and their style.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cJust want to see them get better and want to see them walk in here and do their best to get better,\u201d she said. \u201cI think we\u2019ve already seen that in a week and half of working with them so we\u2019re really excited about what the rest of the season will bring.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
