{"id":111355,"date":"2021-09-10T08:35:04","date_gmt":"2021-09-10T12:35:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=111355"},"modified":"2021-09-10T08:38:43","modified_gmt":"2021-09-10T12:38:43","slug":"retaining-talent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/09\/10\/retaining-talent\/","title":{"rendered":"Retaining talent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Kareem Jalanbo, a Wright State University junior <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/computer-science-and-engineering\/bachelor-of-science-in-computer-science\">majoring in computer science<\/a>, received a $1,000 Retention of Talent scholarship from the Dayton Workforce Partnerships Scholarship Program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cVery surprising,\u201d said Jalanbo. \u201cIf I could find a job here in Dayton, where I was born and raised, it would be wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The program connects scholarship recipients to area business partners for shadowing, internships and eventually employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Michael Bennett, Dayton office principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, says that it\u2019s important for the company to stay connected to Wright State. \u201cThey produce outstanding graduates that we are able to put to work right away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>During a scholarship presentation on Aug. 19 in the Joshi Research Center, Jalanbo received an oversized check. He was joined by his father; Ron Adler, the vice president of Dayton Workforce Partnerships Scholarship Program; Bennett; and Brian Rigling, dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/\">College of Engineering and Computer Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really a mission of the college to stay well-tuned with what our local employers need,\u201d said Rigling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Adler says the Dayton region is full of great possibilities for future engineering graduates like Jalanbo. \u201cBy the time he\u2019s ready to graduate he\u2019s not going to have to worry about a job search.
