The Foodbank organized a mass food distribution in the Wright State University Nutter Center parking lot on Sept. 9, attracting 525 needy households and distributing 80,000 pounds of food.<\/p>\n
Along with providing households with fresh produce, proteins, grains and other products, the drive-thru event offered wellness services, including a COVID-19 vaccine clinic, biometric screenings, glucose and A1C testing and HIV screenings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is done in partnership with, of course, Wright State and the Nutter Center but also with CareSource, Dayton Children\u2019s Hospital and Premier Health Partners,\u201d said Lee Lauren Truesdale, chief development officer for The Foodbank.<\/p>\n
The Foodbank distribution begin at 10 a.m. but cars began to line up before 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
Wright State police officers directed traffic into four pickup lanes and helped to avoid any large backups on Raider Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to make sure the needs of the community are met,\u201d said Kurt Holden, interim director of the Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n
More assistance available<\/strong><\/p>\n The Foodbank Drive Thru Pantry is open to those in need of food assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at 56 Armor Place in Dayton.
