Ideas ranged from a marching band and parade to the iconic Mardi Gras mask.   <\/p><\/div>\n<p>A purple and gold Mardi Gras float decked out in refried beans and Campbells\u2019 soup. A giant mask of green beans and black-eyed peas. These festive arrangements of canned food are headed to Wright State\u2019s Friendship Food Pantry.<\/p>\n<p>On March 8, at the second-annual Pan Hellenic canned food sculpture contest, students from Pan Hellenic Council sororities and fraternities gathered in the Student Union Atrium with donations of canned goods. Each group arranged their cans in a Mardi Gras-themed scene decorated with green, gold and purple.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the night, four sororities (Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Theta Phi Alpha and Alpha Z Delta) and one fraternity (Sigma Phi) had collected over 850 cans to donate to the Friendship Food Pantry.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State student Rachel Schroerluke, who organized the event, said it\u2019s becoming an annual event.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11377\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-11377\" href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2012\/03\/09\/greek-students-stack-cans-for-charity\/greeks-canned-art\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11377\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11377\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2012\/03\/Greeks-canned-art-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Wright State Greeks students that partcipated in the second-annual Pan Hellenic canned food sculpture contest.\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11377\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Four sororities (Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Theta Phi Alpha and Alpha Z Delta) and one fraternity (Sigma Phi) had collected over 850 cans to donate to the Friendship Food Pantry.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe goal last year was the Wright State food pantry had just opened up, and we wanted to get them started with some donations,\u201d she said.
