And the combination has Jacob Marino flourishing in the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">The Wright State University alumnus helps design and develop products used in buildings around the world, including sports arenas and stadiums, the new World Trade Center and Amazon\u2019s headquarters in Seattle. The company Marino works for as a product engineer, BarSplice Products, Inc., is also a supplier of the space launch facility for Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos\u2019 aerospace company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino earned his\u00a0bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical engineering\u00a0at Wright State in 2016 and then returned for a\u00a0Master of Business Administration\u00a0with a concentration in project management, graduating in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino knew he wanted to be an engineer at a young age.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cMath and science both fascinated me, and engineering combines those two fields to develop products and services,\u201d he said. \u201cEverything from tech to buildings to transportation is created by engineers, and I\u2019ve always loved the idea of designing products that improve the world around us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino, who grew up in the Indianapolis area, was home-schooled and graduated from high school in 2012. He was attracted to Wright State following a campus visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cI knew it was the place for me,\u201d he said. \u201cI love the campus and surrounding area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">After graduating in 2016, Marino began working as a product engineer at the Dayton-based BarSplice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino wanted to earn an M.B.A. after realizing that engineers at midsize companies have many responsibilities that directly relate to business and its operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cI knew this type of setting provided the perfect opportunity to pursue a degree in business and have it produce tangible results for the company and my career,\u201d he said. \u201cSince I had such an amazing experience at Wright State and because I knew how great the Raj Soin College of Business was, choosing Wright State again was an easy decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"chunk chunk--flex@lg\">\n<div class=\"primary@lg u-has-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"content cXenseParse\">\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino also discovered that many Fortune 500 CEOs come from engineering backgrounds and add an M.B.A. to help with their growth in understanding the entire business. He said earning his M.B.A. paid huge dividends for his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cEngineering education is almost solely focused on math, physics, etc.,\u201d he said. \u201cGetting an M.B.A. opened me up to the world of business and operations. It enabled me to better design products and solve problems with the entire business framework in mind. Once I started taking business courses at Wright State, my growth as an engineer and employee skyrocketed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">BarSplice designs and manufactures mechanical couplers for rebar. In recent years there has been an increasing emphasis on developing rebar made of materials other than traditional steel, such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, and titanium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cBarSplice has begun working on products for these new types of rebar, so it\u2019s been fun to work with the variety of materials and the different engineering challenges they pose,\u201d said Marino.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino also took the lead on the company\u2019s use of 3D printers to produce face shields for Premier Health and first responders to help protect workers and prevent the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cThat was an awesome project that I was able to oversee, and it was great seeing our direct impact in the Dayton area,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was incredible to be able to adapt our equipment to help out in such crazy times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">Marino said his decision to add an M.B.A. to an engineering degree has proven to be a wise one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"chunk chunk--flex@lg\">\n<div class=\"primary@lg u-has-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"content cXenseParse\">\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\">\u201cI certainly would not be as successful as I have been in my career thus far without the engineering and business skills I learned at Wright State,\u201d Marino said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"content__segment combx meterwall__content\"><em>To find out more about Wright State\u2019s M.B.A. and other business degree programs, please visit\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/business.wright.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><em>wright.edu\/business<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>View the original post at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/dayton\/news\/2021\/10\/01\/two-time-wright-state-graduate-combines-engineerin.html?ana=RSS&amp;s=article_search\">bizjournals.com<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He lives in two different worlds using two different degrees \u2014 engineering and business.
