{"id":114150,"date":"2021-10-15T09:05:14","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T13:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=114150"},"modified":"2021-10-15T09:05:14","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T13:05:14","slug":"lake-campus-baseball-team-helps-fill-sandbags-for-celina-medical-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/10\/15\/lake-campus-baseball-team-helps-fill-sandbags-for-celina-medical-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake Campus baseball team helps fill sandbags for Celina medical center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_114166\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/10\/15\/lake-campus-baseball-team-helps-fill-sandbags-for-celina-medical-center\/lake-baseball-sandbags\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-114166\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114166\" class=\"size-large wp-image-114166\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2021\/10\/Lake-baseball-sandbags-508x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-114166\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">About 15 Lakers helped fill new sandbags to protect the Mercer Health Community Medical Center from potential flooding.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A medical center Celina is better protected from floods thanks to help from players on the Wright State University-Lake Campus baseball team.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 23, about 15 Lakers helped cut open 1,200 old sandbags, empty them and then use the sand to fill new bags, completing the job in four hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a Mercer Health rep reached out, it was a no-brainer to help assist in the project,\u201d said Chad Geier, head baseball coach. \u201cThe team definitely got a workout filling sandbags and stacking them on skids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mercer Health Community Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the Celina area and includes Doctor\u2019s Urgent Care, a variety of specialists and Mercer Health\u2019s Disease Management Center, Diabetes Center, Pulmonology, Wound Healing Center, and Occupational Health and Wellness.<\/p>\n<p>Flooding has historically been an issue in Mercer County. In 2019, severe storms caused flooding in several Mercer County communities, closing roads and causing school delays. In 2015, Mercer County issued a state of emergency due to flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Geier said he is proud of the players for not hesitating to volunteer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most gratifying thing about this experience is getting together a group of young men to do something for someone else that needs the help,\u201d he said. \u201cThe guys may have learned a little from this experience as well. If you can help someone in need, you do it.
