{"id":116379,"date":"2021-12-06T10:36:44","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T15:36:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=116379"},"modified":"2024-07-29T12:19:14","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T16:19:14","slug":"nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/12\/06\/nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 1,200 students to graduate at Wright State\u2019s fall commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_116399\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/12\/06\/nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement\/56940_0291\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-116399\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116399\" class=\"size-large wp-image-116399\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2021\/12\/56940_0291-508x339.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-116399\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State will hold commencement ceremonies in the Wright State Nutter Center for its Graduate School on Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., and for undergraduate students on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Nearly 1,200 students are expected to graduate during Wright State University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/event\/commencement-graduation-ceremony\">fall commencement ceremonies<\/a> in the Wright State Nutter Center on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11.<\/p>\n<p>They join more than 115,000 alumni who are making a difference throughout Raider Country, all over Ohio, across the nation and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Commencement will feature a short congratulatory video from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State will hold two fall commencement ceremonies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Graduate School (master\u2019s, Ph.D., and Ed.D. graduates)<\/strong>: Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Undergraduate: <\/strong>Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tickets are required to attend the ceremonies. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/coronavirus\/health-and-safety-protocols-required-on-wright-state-university-campus\">University health and safety protocols<\/a>, including the campus mask requirements and physical distancing, will be observed at both ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>The commencement ceremonies can be watched online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/streaming\">wright.edu\/streaming<\/a> and on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WrightStateUniversity\/\">university\u2019s Facebook page<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/WrightStateU\">YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The summer and fall classes of 2021 include graduates with 749 bachelor\u2019s degrees, 360 master\u2019s degrees, 53 doctoral degrees and 19 associate degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The classes feature 89 international students from 23 different countries. India boasts the largest number of international graduates, with 40.<\/p>\n<p>The four youngest graduating students are 19, earning an associate degree in business and administration and bachelor\u2019s degrees in management, psychology and sports science. The two oldest graduates are 65, earning a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology and a master\u2019s degree in organizational studies.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates by college:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>College of Engineering and Computer Science: 198<\/li>\n<li>College of Health, Education and Human Services: 276<\/li>\n<li>College of Liberal Arts: 170<\/li>\n<li>College of Science and Mathematics: 193<\/li>\n<li>Raj Soin College of Business: 280<\/li>\n<li>Lake Campus: 40<\/li>\n<li>Boonshoft School of Medicine: 20 (master\u2019s degree only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ceremonies will also be broadcast live on WSU-TV on Time Warner Cable channel 21.105 in the university dorms and Fairborn and regionally on AT&amp;T Uverse channel 99 in the Dayton tab.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Notable graduates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Kara Combs<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_116415\" style=\"width: 247px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/12\/06\/nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement\/kara-combs-fall-graduation\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-116415\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116415\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-116415\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2021\/12\/Kara-Combs-fall-graduation-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-116415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kara Combs will graduate with a master\u2019s degree in industrial and human factors engineering.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kara Combs, of Englewood, will receive her <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/biomedical-industrial-and-human-factors-engineering\/master-of-science-in-industrial-and-human-factors-engineering\">master\u2019s degree in industrial and human factors engineering<\/a> after earning her bachelor\u2019s in industrial and systems engineering last May.<\/p>\n<p>Combs was recently named a Laureate by Tau Beta Pi for her service, a highly prestigious honor. It was the third award she received from the national college engineering honor society. Previously, she received a highly competitive Tau Beta Pi fellowship for advanced study and in 2019 received an undergraduate scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Combs received the James W. Barany Student Award for Excellence from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. The award recognizes undergraduate students who have brought distinction to industrial engineering at their universities.<\/p>\n<p>Combs was also on a team of Wright State business students who won the top student award from a regional information technology organization for using data analytics to predict the speed of pet adoption.<\/p>\n<p>After graduation, Combs plans to work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and enroll in a Ph.D. program. She intends to stay involved in the Dayton community by volunteering with professional societies and local organizations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_116407\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/12\/06\/nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement\/59173-jim-hannah-benjamin-siefert-11-15-21\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-116407\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116407\" class=\"size-large wp-image-116407\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2021\/12\/Benjamin-Siefert-59173_010-508x327.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-116407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Benjamin Siefert will graduate with a bachelor\u2019s degree in supply chain management and a bachelor\u2019s degree in French.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Benjamin Siefert <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Benjamin Siefert will receive <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wright.edu\/information-systems-and-supply-chain-management\/bachelor-of-science-in-business-supply-chain-management-major\">bachelor\u2019s degrees in supply chain management<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/modern-languages\/bachelor-of-arts-in-french\">in French<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Bellbrook High School graduate decided to major in supply chain management because he had an interest in logistics and discovered he was good at it and enjoyed it. Then he went to France in 2019 as part of Wright State\u2019s Ambassador Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an incredible experience,\u201d said Siefert, who has always enjoyed learning about different languages and cultures. \u201cWe spent one week in Nice and two in Paris. After returning to the U.S. I decided to change my French minor to a second major.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Siefert said Wright State has prepared him to succeed by giving him the knowledge and experiences that will help him for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would especially like to highlight the French department,\u201d he said. \u201cAll of the French professors are unbelievably kind, caring and knowledgeable. I have learned so much more than just French with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Siefert intends to pursue a career in supply chain management internationally.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_116411\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2021\/12\/06\/nearly-1200-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-fall-commencement\/59093-jim-hannah-art-student-charles-wright-student-profile-11-4-21\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-116411\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116411\" class=\"size-large wp-image-116411\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2021\/12\/Charles-Wright-59093_012-508x368.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-116411\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charles Wright will graduate with a bachelor\u2019s degree in art with an emphasis in painting.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Charles Wright<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Charles Wright will receive his <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/art-and-art-history\/bachelor-of-arts-or-bachelor-of-fine-arts-in-art\">bachelor\u2019s degree in art with an emphasis in painting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wright worked professionally as an in-house corporate graphic designer focusing on school and planning products. He currently has clients who rely on him for marketing, video and design. In addition, he teaches design as an adjunct faculty member in the Visual Communications Department at Sinclair Community College.<\/p>\n<p>Wright said his time at Wright State helped him dive more deeply into art and influence his design work in a way he hadn\u2019t predicted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Art and design are different, but have many connections,\u201d he said. \u201cTaking this time to focus on art and art history has given me a stronger background in a subject that influences my career field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright plans to use his degree to continue to make art and pursue teaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department does a great job at giving students the tools to continue to create artwork on their own after college,\u201d he said. \u201cMy time here has also influenced my teaching.
