Lockhart is Faculty Fellow for Scholarship. Kelly will be Faculty Fellow for Pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/center-for-faculty-excellence\">Center for Faculty Excellence<\/a> provides resources and programs that enable faculty to develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies, sustainable research and scholarship plans, and effective leadership and service profiles.<\/p>\n<p>The Center for Faculty Excellence is committed to providing resources and programs to support faculty across the three broad areas of faculty work, enabling faculty to develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies across the modalities; sustainable research and scholarship plans; and effective leadership and service profiles.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_118085\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/01\/21\/paul-lockhart-peggy-kelly-named-faculty-fellows-at-the-center-for-faculty-excellence\/peggy-kelly_fellowship\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-118085\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118085\" class=\"wp-image-118085 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2022\/01\/Peggy-Kelly_Fellowship-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-118085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peggy Kelly, academic director of developmental mathematics, is the Faculty Fellow for Pedagogy in the Center for Faculty Excellence.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Carol Loranger, Ph.D., interim vice provost for faculty affairs, said she is thrilled that Kelly and Lockhart have agreed to be the inaugural Fellows of the newly branded center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. Kelly has already been instrumental in the development of our forthcoming call for proposals for Teaching Enhancement Grants,\u201d said Loranger. \u201cAs Faculty Fellow for Pedagogy, she brings with her a successful track record of working with faculty colleagues to enhance teaching for student success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kelly has been a teacher her entire professional career and earned both her bachelor\u2019s degree and master\u2019s degree from Wright State.<\/p>\n<p>A senior lecturer, she teaches gateway mathematics courses and helped to create and conduct the Developmental Mathematics program in the <a href=\"https:\/\/science-math.wright.edu\/\">College of Science and Mathematics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Loranger said Lockhart is both a world-renowned scholar in his fields and a popularly successful public intellectual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore importantly for the purposes of his role as a Faculty Fellow for Research, he is open-minded and curious, with a capacity to bring people together into exciting collaborations and to bring out the best in colleagues in diverse disciplines,\u201d Loranger said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_118081\" style=\"width: 256px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/01\/21\/paul-lockhart-peggy-kelly-named-faculty-fellows-at-the-center-for-faculty-excellence\/59024-jim-hannah-history-professor-paul-lockhart-11-2-21-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-118081\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118081\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-118081\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2022\/01\/Paul-Lockhart_59024_007-246x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-118081\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paul Lockhart, professor of history, is the Faculty Fellow for Scholarship at the Center for Faculty Excellence.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Lockhart said one of his goals is to help mentor faculty engaged in serious scholarship and help them find the resources they need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMid-career faculty are often those who are most in need of support, and I think Wright State can do more to provide motivation and support to help faculty \u2014 hard-pressed by service obligations and teaching \u2014 to keep their research agendas active,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another goal, he said, is to promote the school\u2019s research activities both on campus and in the outside community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to lose sight of the fact that Wright State has top-notch, world-class scholars, researchers and scientists in virtually all of the fields that the faculty represents,\u201d he said. \u201cPutting a more public-facing spotlight on our research activities is utterly vital to our prosperity as an institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lockhart received his Ph.D. in European history and master\u2019s degree in history from Purdue University and his bachelor\u2019s degree in history from SUNY Potsdam.<\/p>\n<p>He was the Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research at Wright State for 2014\u201318, in recognition of his distinguished scholarship in American military history and early modern Scandinavian history.
