{"id":122407,"date":"2022-04-08T08:24:28","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T12:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=122407"},"modified":"2022-04-08T10:24:36","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T14:24:36","slug":"wright-state-to-implement-student-health-insurance-requirement-starting-this-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/04\/08\/wright-state-to-implement-student-health-insurance-requirement-starting-this-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State to implement student health insurance requirement starting this fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_122415\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/04\/08\/wright-state-to-implement-student-health-insurance-requirement-starting-this-fall\/52040-genessa-merritt-student-health-services-wright-state-physicians-11-1-19-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-122415\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-122415\" class=\"wp-image-122415 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2022\/04\/Student-Health-Services-52040_059-508x339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-122415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Implementing this insurance requirement is a best practice in Ohio and is already in place at most peer public institutions in Ohio.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Beginning in the 2022 Fall Semester, Wright State University will require most students to have adequate health insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Rates for Wright State&#8217;s student medical and prescription drug insurance plan for undergraduate and graduate students will not increase in the 2022\u201323 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The health and well-being of our students is a priority for Wright State,&#8221; said Chris Taylor, Ph.D., dean of students. &#8220;Health insurance can help ensure that students have access to reliable medical care while also protecting them from unplanned medical bills.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Implementing this insurance requirement is a best practice in Ohio and is already in place at most of our peer public institutions in Ohio, Taylor said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wright State&#8217;s health insurance requirement will apply to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All domestic undergraduate students taking 12 or more credit hours per semester<\/li>\n<li>All domestic graduate students registered for six or more credit hours per semester<\/li>\n<li>All international students registered for one or more credit hours per term<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students who fall into any of the categories above will be automatically enrolled in the university-sponsored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/student-health-services\/health-insurance\">student medical and prescription drug insurance plan<\/a>. Coverage for the Fall Semester will begin on August 15, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Students who have medical and prescription drug coverage under another plan that meets Wright State&#8217;s insurance criteria may submit a waiver request to have the premium removed from their student account. Waivers must be submitted during the open enrollment period, between July 1 and September 2, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>More information about how to waive the Wright State student health insurance plan will be shared this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/student-health-services\/health-insurance\">student medical and prescription drug insurance plan<\/a> covers hospital care, office visits for sickness and injury, and surgery except where otherwise noted.
