{"id":123043,"date":"2022-04-21T09:17:34","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T13:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=123043"},"modified":"2022-04-21T09:18:43","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T13:18:43","slug":"boonshoft-school-of-medicine-tops-in-diversity-in-ohio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/04\/21\/boonshoft-school-of-medicine-tops-in-diversity-in-ohio\/","title":{"rendered":"Boonshoft School of Medicine tops in diversity in Ohio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/04\/21\/boonshoft-school-of-medicine-tops-in-diversity-in-ohio\/bsom-logo-20212x-100\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-123059\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-123059\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2022\/04\/BSOM-Logo-2021@2x-100-260x132.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a>When it comes to diversity, the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.wright.edu\/\">Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine<\/a> is the best in Ohio and the 13th best in the nation among 125 similar schools, based on rankings 2022 by U.S. News and World Report.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. News ranked each medical school based on the percentage of its fall 2021 total enrollment as reported to U.S. News of students from underrepresented minority populations and how that percentage compares with state and national race-ethnic-group proportions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt BSOM, our mission is to create the physician workforce of the future,\u201d said Valerie Weber, M.D., dean of the Boonshoft School of Medicine. \u201cWe know that by creating a workforce that reflects society, we will improve health care quality for Ohio and beyond, and therefore we are committed to admitting medical students reflecting the many dimensions of diversity. Our students, who predominantly come from Ohio, are stellar young people who, in high numbers, remain in Ohio and choose primary care and other much-needed specialties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lakia Young, director of admissions at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, said that the school has had a &#8220;longstanding interest in educating a culturally diverse student population.
