(Photo by Erin Pence)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University Theatre will present a new season of exciting classic and contemporary dramas, musicals and dance during the 2022\u20132023 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>The new season celebrates Wright State Theatre\u2019s first as part of the newly organized <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\">School of Fine and Performing Arts<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/\">College of Liberal Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWright State Theatre\u2019s next season explores our shared search for human connection, meaning and self-discovery,\u201d said Joe Deer, artistic director and distinguished professor of musical theatre. \u201cThese productions give Dayton audiences a chance to see the work of exceptional performing arts students preparing to follow past Raider alumni to Broadway, Hollywood, national and international stages and screens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Season tickets are now on sale on the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\/box-office-and-current-season\">School of Fine and Performing Arts website<\/a> or by calling David Emery, Box Office manager, at 937-775-2500.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Mousetrap,\u201d<\/strong> Sept. 23\u2013Oct. 2, Festival Playhouse<\/p>\n<p>Wright State opens its Festival Playhouse season with Agatha Christie\u2019s \u201cThe Mousetrap,\u201d the longest-running play in modern theatre history. The mystery centers on a group of apparent strangers who have gathered in an old English country house cut off by a blizzard and discover that there is a murderer in their midst. \u201cThe Mousetrap\u201d is led by guest director Jason Podplesky with scenic design by Dick Block, associate head of drama at Carnegie Mellon University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cSister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy,\u201d<\/strong> Nov. 4\u201320, Festival Playhouse<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSister Act\u201d is the feel-good pop\/gospel musical comedy based on the hit film. Those who loved Wright State Theatre\u2019s production of \u201cMamma Mia!\u201d last season won\u2019t want to miss \u201cSister Act.\u201d \u201cSister Act\u201d is directed and choreographed by Greg Hellems, head of musical theatre at Wright State.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cBright Star,\u201d<\/strong> Nov. 18\u2013Dec. 4, Herbst Theatre<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBright Star,\u201d by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, is a joyous and heartfelt bluegrass musical story of love and redemption. The musical will be directed and choreographed by guest artist Leslie Goddard Baum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cArcadia,\u201d<\/strong> Feb. 3\u201312, 2023, Festival Playhouse<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArcadia,\u201d by Tom Stoppard, leaps artfully between 1809 and the present while exploring the possibilities life offers as we make seemingly minor but irreversible choices. The drama is directed by Marya Spring Cordes, associate professor of theatre and associate chair of the School of Fine and Performing Arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Laramie Project,\u201d<\/strong> Feb. 17\u201326, Herbst Theatre<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Laramie Project,\u201d by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project, is about the reaction to the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student. The story is told through the actual words of people who experienced the tragedy firsthand in Laramie, Wyoming. \u201cThe Laramie Project\u201d is directed by Josh Aaron McCabe, associate professor of theatre and produced in collaboration, with Wright State\u2019s Office of LGBTQA Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Plans are underway to offer concurrent programming related to the production.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cOn The Town,\u201d<\/strong> March 17\u2013April 8, Festival Playhouse<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn The Town\u201d is the landmark musical comedy by Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Featuring a full onstage orchestra, Wright State Theatre\u2019s production and will be presented in collaboration with other programs in the School of Fine and Performing Arts. \u201cOn The Town\u201d is directed by Deer with musical direction by F. Wade Russo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wright State Dance in Concert<\/strong>, April 20\u201323, Festival Playhouse<\/p>\n<p>The Wright State Dance in Concert brings together the talents of faculty members in the Wright State Dance Program and outstanding guest choreographers to present a bouquet of ballet, jazz and modern dance.
