{"id":128144,"date":"2022-08-16T08:44:05","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T12:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=128144"},"modified":"2022-08-17T09:10:09","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T13:10:09","slug":"math-boot-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/08\/16\/math-boot-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Math boot camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Almost 100 first-year Wright State University students participated in the Academic Advantage Program, a pre-college math boot camp offered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/\">College of Engineering and Computer Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen they come into Wright State to be engineers, they\u2019re supposed to be calculus-ready but not all students are,\u201d said Craig Baudendistel, Ph.D., director of engineering mathematics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 87 students who attended the camp on Aug. 8-12 refreshed their math knowledge by using real-world engineering examples, improved their math placement level, acquired skills needed for all college courses and connected with professors and classmates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt was definitely worth it,\u201d said Alex Thomas, first-year mechanical engineering major. \u201cI feel a lot more confident going into this semester.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now in its 23rd year, the program is open to first-year students in all majors with the goal of easing the transition into the courses students will take in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
