Subhashini Ganapathy, professor and chair of biomedical, industrial and human factors engineering, was honored the Dayton Business Journal 2022 Diversity in Business Awards ceremony.<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Subhashini Ganapathy embodies what it means to be a leader, educator, and entrepreneur.<\/p>\n

She began work at Wright State University 11 years ago, and currently serves as an associate professor and chair in the Department of Biomedical, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering. Ganapathy is a 2022 Outstanding Diversity Champion.<\/p>\n

She is also in charge of directing the Interaction, Design, and Modeling Lab at Wright State, where she uses her fundamental and applied research in the area of human computer interaction. The goal of the lab is to gain understanding of how technology can help enable more healthy, socially connected, and reflective living. Before this position, she worked for six years at Intel Corporation.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, Dr. Ganapathy has been dedicated to maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion. Under her leadership, the enrollment diversity in her department has grown significantly, and she has started a variety of new initiatives to bolster awareness of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education for under-represented groups in high schools in the area. She also participates in several mentoring activities that promote diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Dr. Ganapathy worked as a mentor for STEMM Goes Red for Girls Dayton Event through the American Heart Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is an important role model to women who want to enter the field of engineering,\u201d reads the nomination letter for Dr. Ganapathy. \u201cHer research work has had an impact on improving the performance of military, medical, and rescue personnel as well as operators within dangerous plant environments. The ultimate outcome is improved well-being and safety for a broad range of citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Ganapathy is well known for her achievements, previously being honored as a Dayton Business Journal Forty Under 40 winner. She was also a speaker at TedXDayton in 2020, where she presented on the topic \u2018Engineering is Actually Fun.\u2019<\/p>\n
