{"id":129320,"date":"2022-09-27T08:57:25","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T12:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=129320"},"modified":"2022-09-27T08:57:25","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T12:57:25","slug":"sign-seekers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2022\/09\/27\/sign-seekers\/","title":{"rendered":"Sign seekers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dozens of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/army-rotc\">Wright State University Army ROTC<\/a> cadets honed their land navigation skills during a training exercise designed to prepare them for Advanced Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The land navigation training took place on Sept. 14 with 55 cadets searching for hidden signs along three different courses in the Wright State woods. The signs were almost identical to the ones they will search for at Fort Knox.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the exercise, cadets were given a compass, map, ruler and a list of five coordinates to search for within a given timeframe. Cadets had to return to the starting point after locating all five targets or their time expired. Cadets had to repeat the course if they failed to locate their location points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAdvance Camp is like the Super Bowl for all cadets,\u201d said Markus Perry, a junior majoring in organizational leadership. \u201cBased on how well you do at the camp is where you will rank among all of the other cadets in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shavonn Corbett, a junior majoring in political science, said the land navigation training is gives Wright State cadets an edge over other cadets they\u2019ll compete against.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA lot of schools don\u2019t have this kind of land to do this so it kind of puts us at an advantage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_129328\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?attachment_id=129328\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-129328\" class=\"wp-image-129328 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2022\/09\/pic5545450-508x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-129328\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Army ROTC cadets participated in team-building exercises at the Low Ropes Course.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cadets also participated in team-building and critical-thinking exercises at the Low Ropes Course on Sept. 21.
