{"id":13123,"date":"2012-05-17T15:10:16","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T19:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=13123"},"modified":"2012-05-29T09:02:29","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T13:02:29","slug":"down-the-garden-path","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2012\/05\/17\/down-the-garden-path\/","title":{"rendered":"Down the garden path"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_13126\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2012\/05\/17\/down-the-garden-path\/ramey-garden-photo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13126\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13126\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13126\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2012\/05\/Ramey-garden-photo-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Dr. Linda Ramey watering the Wright State University community garden.\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13126\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The garden was driven by representatives from Student Government and has been nourished by students, university officials and volunteers, including Linda Ramey , (pictured) the associate director of the Office of Sustainability.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Those who walk by Wright State\u2019s new Campus Community Garden just can\u2019t resist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen are those tomatoes coming up?\u201d asks one. \u201cBecause when they do, I\u2019m bringing the bacon and lettuce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The garden, established next to the Student Union and Russ Engineering at the end of March, is slowly coming to life.<\/p>\n<p>There are potatoes, green onions, kale, leeks, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and beans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPretty much from here it\u2019s just keeping it watered and weeded,\u201d Linda Ramey, associate director of the Office of Sustainability, said as she planted, cultivated and watered the garden May 17.<\/p>\n<p>The garden was driven by representatives from Student Government and has been nourished by students, university officials and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ecstatic because so many people have come together on this project,\u201d said Ramey. \u201cI\u2019ve had students pitch in carrying water for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ramey expects to begin harvesting the garden\u2019s bounty in six weeks or so. The vegetables will go the Wright State\u2019s Student Food Pantry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe food pantry gets the benefit of this in August and into the fall,\u201d Ramey said. \u201cWe\u2019ll also have some food-cooking demonstrations. And the summer camps and Mini U will come up and learn about plants and gardening.
