A dozen Wright State University students stuffed paper sacks with sandwiches, cookies and bottled water to distribute to hungry people in downtown Dayton on Feb. 18.<\/p>\n
The students passed out 80 bags to people near the Wright Stop Plaza Transit Center at Third and Jefferson streets as part of the Black Student Union\u2019s<\/a> annual Feed the Streetz initiative.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s about giving back to the community that surrounds us, not just on campus,\u201d said Gary Neal, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.<\/p>\n The food distribution event wrapped up the Black Student Union’s Heritage Week, a weeklong celebration that focuses on cultural heritage and features the annual Heritage Ball.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cHopefully, next year, we can get sponsors for the event, and it can be bigger, and we can give out more,\u201d said Kayla Spearman, a senior majoring in business economics.<\/p>\n Neal said that getting involved with organizations like Black Student Union at Wright State has not only given him the opportunity to help himself but also allowed him to find ways to help others.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been amazing.
