{"id":135756,"date":"2023-03-07T09:19:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-07T14:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=135756"},"modified":"2023-03-07T10:17:37","modified_gmt":"2023-03-07T15:17:37","slug":"new-advisory-board-gives-student-perspective-in-college-of-graduate-programs-and-honors-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2023\/03\/07\/new-advisory-board-gives-student-perspective-in-college-of-graduate-programs-and-honors-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"New advisory board gives student perspective in College of Graduate Programs and Honors Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_135764\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2023\/03\/07\/new-advisory-board-gives-student-perspective-in-college-of-graduate-programs-and-honors-studies\/63851-shu-schiller-ghsab-groups-and-portraits-1-13-23\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-135764\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135764\" class=\"size-large wp-image-135764\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2023\/03\/Graduate-Programs-and-Honors-Studies-Student-Advisory-Board-508x339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-135764\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Comprised of graduate, professional, and undergraduate honors students, the Graduate and Honors Student Advisory Board brings a student perspective to support the mission of Wright State\u2019s College of Graduate Programs and Honors Studies.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/graduate-programs-and-honors-studies\">College of Graduate Programs and Honors Studies<\/a> has established a Graduate and Honor Student Advisory Board.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/graduate-programs-and-honors-studies\/about\/graduate-and-honors-student-advisory-board\">Graduate and Honors Student Advisory Board<\/a> is currently comprised of 11 graduate, professional and undergraduate honors students who bring a student perspective to support the college\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Wicker, president of the board and a first-year clinical psychology doctoral student, said the board\u2019s aim is to create opportunities, connect students from different programs, listen to student feedback and incorporate it into initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe board&#8217;s purpose is also to represent Wright State graduate, professional and honors students for further development and support, identify and address their needs and create a network of multidisciplinary professionals,\u201d said Wicker.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the board\u2019s initiatives include leading the Three Minute Thesis\/Dissertation Competition, creating the RISE (Raider Interdisciplinary Showcase of Excellence) Tour, collecting feedback from students through a student satisfaction survey, and helping to establish a living-learning community for honors students on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Three Minute Thesis\/Dissertation competition is a great opportunity and experience for students to share their research with a broader audience, give the best \u2018elevator speech\u2019 to practice research communication and win a prize,\u201d said Wicker.<\/p>\n<p>Held on Feb. 21, the competition featured <a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2023\/02\/23\/elevator-speeches\/\">presentations from 11 finalists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wicker said that the board plans to conduct the student satisfaction survey during the spring semester. The feedback will be evaluated and used to implement action items next fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe board also has big projects that are still in the works, like the RISE Tour. Once more information is developed, we will be very excited to share the information with all Wright State graduate, professional and honors students,\u201d said Wicker.<\/p>\n<p>The Graduate and Honors Student Advisory Board is made up of a minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 15 students. To become an officer, a student must be in good academic standing with Wright State University and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Applicants are required to submit a statement of interest and qualifications. Officers are appointed through elections held from March to April each academic year.<\/p>\n<p>The student advisory board\u2019s meetings are open to visitors.
