{"id":136830,"date":"2023-03-29T09:25:21","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T13:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=136830"},"modified":"2023-03-29T09:25:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T13:25:21","slug":"gearing-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2023\/03\/29\/gearing-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Gearing up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State University students, faculty and staff of all abilities can now check out bicycles from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/student-affairs\/campus-recreation\">Campus Recreation\u2019s<\/a> new Bicycle Library Program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thirteen Trek hybrid bicycles and four fully electric quad bikes plus helmets, storage bags and locks are available for students, faculty and staff to use at no cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBicycles can be very expensive,\u201d said Erin Compaleo, the program manager for Outdoor Recreation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Outdoor Recreation offers plenty of outdoor programming and equipment for hiking, camping, climbing, kayaking and bicycle group rides, although the program did not have bicycles available.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt was hard to find students that were able to participate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The four electric quad vehicles called \u201cRaider Rigs\u201d are great for students with disabilities so they can explore campus and the surrounding trails.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese will allow our students with disabilities an opportunity to get out and enjoy some trails and maybe get off-road a little bit because of the size of the tires,\u201d said Eric Corbitt, Student Union and Campus Recreation director.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Office of Disability Services purchased the quad bikes after receiving a $24,608 Direct Effect Quality of Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Campus Recreation was able to purchase the Trek bicycles in 2021 with help from a $5,800 gift from the Legacy Project, but due to Covid-19 and the popularity of outdoor equipment, it took two years to receive the bikes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut they\u2019re here now, and we are excited about today and the opportunity to share our Bike Library,\u201d said Corbitt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State community members can check out a bicycle through Engage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wright.campuslabs.com\/engage\/submitter\/form\/start\/584206\">Trek hybrid bicycle reservation form<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wright.campuslabs.com\/engage\/submitter\/form\/start\/579189\">Raider Rig reservation form<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Requests must be submitted 48 hours in advance of the desired check-out date. Bicycles can be picked up at the reserved time in the Outdoor Resource Center, 037 Student Union.
