{"id":145767,"date":"2024-01-11T09:52:07","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T14:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=145767"},"modified":"2024-01-12T10:54:25","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T15:54:25","slug":"national-juried-exhibition-of-drawings-featured-at-wright-states-stein-galleries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/11\/national-juried-exhibition-of-drawings-featured-at-wright-states-stein-galleries\/","title":{"rendered":"National juried exhibition of drawings featured at Wright State\u2019s Stein Galleries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_145787\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/11\/national-juried-exhibition-of-drawings-featured-at-wright-states-stein-galleries\/frank-spidale_untitled\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-145787\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-145787\" class=\"wp-image-145787 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/01\/Frank-Spidale_Untitled-508x436.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-145787\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Untitled,&#8221; by Frank Spidale (Image credit: Frank Spidale)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Contemporary drawings by 68 artists from across the United States will be featured in a juried exhibition, \u201cDrawing from Perception, Invention and Memory,\u201d at the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/art-galleries\">Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries<\/a> at Wright State University from Jan. 16 to March 8.<\/p>\n<p>Eve Mansdorf, a nationally recognized painter and faculty member at Indiana University, served as the exhibition\u2019s juror and selected 91 pieces by 68 artists.<\/p>\n<p>Selected works in the exhibition range highlight a diversity of approaches, materials, subject matter and scale.<\/p>\n<p>A reception will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Stein Galleries, 160 Creative Arts Center.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven alumni of Wright State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\/bachelor-of-arts-or-bachelor-of-fine-arts-in-art\">Fine Arts Program<\/a> are among the artists represented in the show: Clara Coleman, Andrew Dailey, Christopher Dolan, Fred Draper, Sam Kelly, Eva Lewis, Edmund Merricle II, Kathy Moore, Patricia Robinow, Emma Smith and Micah Zavacky.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition marks the ninth installment of the drawing competition at the Stein Galleries.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, the first juror was renowned painter Bernard Chaet, who taught at Yale University and wrote \u201cThe Art of Drawing,\u201d which is widely considered to be the definitive text on drawing.<\/p>\n<p>Jurors in subsequent exhibitions in the series have included Rackstraw Downes, Rosemarie Beck, Graham Nickson, Charles Cajorie, Ruth Miller, Stanley Lewis, Catherine Kehoe and Mansdorf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrawing from Perception, Invention and Memory\u201d is curated by Kim Vito, professor of art, and Penny Park, professor emeritus of art.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_145779\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/11\/national-juried-exhibition-of-drawings-featured-at-wright-states-stein-galleries\/eve-mansdorf_fee-lane-pool\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-145779\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-145779\" class=\"wp-image-145779 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/01\/Eve-Mansdorf_Fee-Lane-Pool-508x209.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-145779\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Fee Lane Pool,&#8221; by Eve Mansdorf (Image credit: Eve Mansdorf)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Showing concurrently in the Cantelupe Gallery is \u201cFee Lane Pool,\u201d an exhibition of Mansdorf\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>Mansdorf is known for large paintings of figures in interiors, still lifes and onsite paintings that draw from the landscape and neighborhood in Bloomington, Indiana, where she lives. Mansdorf paints perceptually and often her work is done close to home even when her \u201chome\u201d relocates to other countries and parts of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>She has exhibited her work at the First Street Gallery in New York and various venues in the Midwest.
