Wright State University hosted two simultaneous fairs for students on Jan. 17. The first was the Winter Study Abroad Fair, which was held for the first time in the newly renovated Allyn Hall Lounge. The second was a Student Involvement Fair in the Student Union Atrium.<\/p>\n
Wright State offers 10 to 15 study abroad programs every year for students to participate in.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m weighing all of the options, but I\u2019m leaning towards Japan,\u201d said Mia Rodriguez, a first-year art major who attended the fair.<\/p>\n
Michelle Streeter-Ferrari, the University Center for International Education director, said that less than 11% of college students travel abroad.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving this experience shows that you\u2019re ready to take risks and experience another culture abroad,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Streeter-Ferrari said students often choose a study destination based on their knowledge of the country and if they can speak the language.<\/p>\n
\u201cUniversity students tend to gravitate towards Europe, Central America, places that they may be more familiar with,\u201d said Streeter-Ferrari.<\/p>\n
This year, the University Center for International Education<\/a> is offering a $500 scholarship to any student participating in the study abroad program.<\/p>\n While the Winter Study Abroad Fair was taking place, students also gathered in the Student Union to learn about dozens of organizations and university departments at the Student Involvement Fair.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it is really helpful,\u201d said Jaelyn Hunt, a senior sports science major who is the president of Black Women Striving Forward, an organization whose purpose is to strengthen the relationship among women at Wright State.<\/p>\n The fair attracted around 50 student organizations and several hundred interested students.<\/p>\n \u201cGetting involved is so worth it,\u201d said Lexi Ricker, a senior psychology major and Student Involvement Fair planner. \u201cIt helps you find your people and helps make Wright State your home away from home.\u201d<\/p>\n Students can learn more about studying abroad at studyabroad.wright.edu<\/a> and how to get involved at Wright State at wright.edu\/student-affairs\/student-involvement-and-leadership\/get-involved<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Wright State University hosted two simultaneous fairs for students on Jan. 17.
