{"id":146128,"date":"2024-01-26T08:24:20","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T13:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=146128"},"modified":"2024-01-26T10:27:22","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T15:27:22","slug":"wright-state-school-of-musics-accreditation-renewed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/26\/wright-state-school-of-musics-accreditation-renewed\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State School of Music\u2019s accreditation renewed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/26\/wright-state-school-of-musics-accreditation-renewed\/8788-victoria-chadbourne-university-symphony-orchestra-5-22-12-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-146143\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-146143\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/01\/symphony-orchestra-8788-019-508x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a>Sound the trumpets and sing their praises \u2014 Wright State University\u2019s Music Program has gained reapproval by the National Association of Schools of Music, its national accrediting body.<\/p>\n<p>Accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music is the \u201cgold standard for any institution that has a high-level music program, like ours at Wright State,\u201d said Dan Zehringer, D.M.A., professor of music and chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\">School of Fine and Performing Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The association establishes a national standard for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and related disciplines. \u201cIt also provides a national standard to institutions and individuals who are engaged in artistic and scholarly education and other musical-related endeavors,\u201d said Zehringer.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1924, the National Association of Schools of Music is composed of 628 colleges, conservatories, universities and other accredited institutional members. Wright State has had accreditation from the association since 1972. Nearly all colleges and universities in Ohio are members of the association.<\/p>\n<p>News of the reapproval was welcomed because of the longer-than-usual process, during which Wright State maintained its accreditation while under review.<\/p>\n<p>The process, repeated every 10 years, began in 2015 but had been ongoing \u201cbecause of construction, a reorganization, changing leadership and a pandemic,\u201d Zehringer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe received notice of our accreditation approval and are fully compliant and reaccredited,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is a big, glorious feather in our cap for the School of Fine and Performing Arts to have this national accreditation as part of our program. Achieving NASM accreditation is a heavy lift for any nationally ranked music program. The faculty and staff are thrilled to be able to close the book on this latest accreditation cycle.
