Harris Sr., Miami Valley Hospital chief medical officer and a Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine alum, will give the keynote address at Wright State\u2019s annual Path to Health Professions Day on Feb. 19.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>High school and college students can explore health care programs and careers on President\u2019s Day during Wright State University\u2019s annual Path to Health Professions Day.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/pre-professional-health-program\/path-to-health-professions-day\">Path to Health Professions Day<\/a>\u00a0will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Apollo Room in Wright State\u2019s Student Union.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/go.wright.edu\/register\/?id=ce2b72fd-46dd-4085-a6d1-f1344b02d763\">Participants should register online<\/a> by Feb. 15.<\/p>\n<p>Andre T. Harris Sr., M.D., Miami Valley Hospital chief medical officer and 2002 Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine alum, will give the keynote address titled &#8220;Why would you ever want to go into medicine?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Harris is a prominent figure in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in the Dayton community and holds a master&#8217;s degree in health care administration from Liberty University\u2019s School of Business.<\/p>\n<p>Path to Health Professions Day will show students how they can get on the right path to becoming a health professional. The program features informational career sessions with healthcare practitioners and subject-matter experts who will give students an overview of the educational journey to health professional school and insights into the practitioners\u2019 daily lives.<\/p>\n<p>Encouraged to attend are prospective high school students and any current or recently accepted Wright State student interested in becoming a physician, dentist, pharmacist, physician assistant, physical therapist, veterinarian, nurse practitioner, psychologist, sports medicine professional or other health professional.<\/p>\n<p>Also welcome are student family members, teachers and guidance counselors who wish to learn more about Wright State\u2019s pre-med and pre-health programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope is that attendees will become more aware of the vast career opportunities in health care and how Wright State University programs can prepare them with the educational and experiential background necessary to help them reach their health professional goals,\u201d said Victoria Boyd, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/pre-health-professional-program\">Pre-Health Professional Program<\/a> advisor.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explore and get a better understanding of these career opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Discover what it takes to get into Wright State University\u2019s Boonshoft School of Medicine and other professional programs.<\/li>\n<li>Find out how degrees from Wright State can open doors to the nation\u2019s top professional schools.<\/li>\n<li>Tour on-campus buildings and lab facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Learn what classes and activities students should be choosing now to prepare for the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Path to Health Professions Day will feature sessions on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allopathic (M.D.) and Osteopathic (D.O) Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Biomedical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Clinical Mental Health Counseling<\/li>\n<li>Chiropractic Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Medical Lab Science<\/li>\n<li>Nursing<\/li>\n<li>Occupational Therapy<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacy<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacology and Toxicology<\/li>\n<li>Physical Therapy<\/li>\n<li>Physician Assistant<\/li>\n<li>Professional Psychology and Psychiatry<\/li>\n<li>Public Health<\/li>\n<li>Integrated Human Services<\/li>\n<li>Social Work<\/li>\n<li>Sports Science<\/li>\n<li>Veterinary Medicine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Path to Health Professions Day is hosted by the Health Professions Center\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/pre-health-professional-program\">Pre-Health Professional Program<\/a>\u00a0in the Student Success Center.
