A graduating class of 119 medical students at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine<\/a> learned at noon on March 15 where they will complete residency training and in what field after receiving their medical degrees later this spring.<\/p>\n

A longstanding tradition at medical schools nationwide, Match Day is the day that medical students learn where they are heading as new doctors to receive advanced clinical training in a residency program. This year, a total of 50,400 applicants from all medical school types, including nearly 20,300 medical school students from U.S. medical schools, vied for residency positions at institutions nationwide.<\/p>\n

During Wright State\u2019s celebration at the Dayton Masonic Center, each medical student received their residency envelope at noon. Some took a moment to read their match letter privately, while other students announced their residency programs from the Masonic Center stage.<\/p>\n

Depending on where they matched, students will spend the next three to five years as residents receiving advanced training in a primary care field or one of dozens of medical specialties after graduating from Wright State on April 28.<\/p>\n

Wright State students matched in outstanding programs in Dayton, throughout Ohio and across the country.<\/p>\n

During their residencies, 45% of the Wright State graduates will remain in Ohio, and 20% will remain in Dayton.<\/p>\n

Sixteen graduates will complete their residencies at Wright State University.<\/p>\n

More than a third (33.6%) of the class will enter a primary care field \u2014 Family Medicine: 11.5%; Internal Medicine: 14.2%; Pediatrics: 4.4%; and Internal Medicine\/Pediatrics: 2.7%.<\/p>\n

The rest matched in 17 other specialties: Anesthesiology: 4.4% Dermatology: 3.5%; Emergency Medicine: 8.8%; Interventional Radiology: 1.8%; Neurological Surgery: 0.9%; Neurology: 7.1%; Obstetrics and Gynecology: 7.1%; Ophthalmology 1.8%; Orthopaedic Surgery: 2.7%; Otolaryngology 1.8%; Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: 0.9%; Plastic Surgery: 0.9%; Psychiatry: 9.7%; Radiology: 2.7%; Surgery: 6.2%; Urology: 3.5%; and Transitional Year: 3.5%.<\/p>\n

Three medical students matched for competitive military residencies: Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base\/Wright State, Emergency Medicine at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and Family Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.<\/p>\n
