{"id":148703,"date":"2024-03-25T10:18:19","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T14:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=148703"},"modified":"2024-03-25T10:18:19","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T14:18:19","slug":"wright-states-artsgala-to-celebrate-25-years-of-supporting-fine-and-performing-arts-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/25\/wright-states-artsgala-to-celebrate-25-years-of-supporting-fine-and-performing-arts-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State\u2019s ArtsGala to celebrate 25 years of supporting fine and performing arts students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_148715\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/25\/wright-states-artsgala-to-celebrate-25-years-of-supporting-fine-and-performing-arts-students\/63089-becca-webb-artsgala-4-1-23-11\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-148715\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148715\" class=\"wp-image-148715 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/03\/artsgala-63039_163-1-508x339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-148715\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State University\u2019s ArtsGala on April 6 will feature an impressive program of student performances and presentations in theatre, dance, motion pictures, music and visual arts.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University\u2019s Creative Arts Center often buzzes with activity, but once a year it outdoes itself.<\/p>\n<p>During ArtsGala the center for one night is alive with fanciness in food and dress to celebrate Wright State students and their talents and to raise scholarship funds to help those creative minds develop.<\/p>\n<p>This year is the 25th anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/artsgala\">ArtsGala<\/a>, the highlight of Wright State\u2019s arts season and a premier event in the Miami Valley. ArtsGala will be held Saturday, April 6, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The opening ceremony starts at 7 p.m., after which the expected throng of about 500 patrons can pick and choose which of the many performances throughout the Creative Arts Center to attend and which of the many themed dining buffets and other food and drink to enjoy. At 10:45 p.m. activity shifts to welcoming the patrons to dance on the Festival Playhouse stage.<\/p>\n<p>ArtsGala tickets and more information are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/artsgala\">wright.edu\/artsgala<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While ArtsGala is a celebration of Wright State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\">fine and performing arts programs<\/a>, it is also about helping many of the programs\u2019 nearly 500 students.<\/p>\n<p>The students come from many different backgrounds, said Rebecca Foley, the art gallery and events coordinator in the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/\">College of Liberal Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe funds generated by ArtsGala enable them to pursue their dream, to refine their talent and go into professions in the arts. Our graduates are performing throughout Dayton and nationally,\u201d said Foley. \u201cArtsGala allows students to pursue their professional ambitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students will showcase their talents throughout the Creative Arts Center during ArtsGala:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outside the upstairs art gallery, students will set up around a model in a costume from the theatre program to paint, sculpt and draw.<\/li>\n<li>In the dance space will be Dance Experience, featuring choreographed performances.<\/li>\n<li>The Festival Playhouse will stage highlights from the musical \u201cThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In the upstairs open-space lounge will be Step In to the Movies, featuring motion picture students welcoming patrons to interact with classic films and explaining special effects.<\/li>\n<li>In Schuster Hall, the Collegiate Chorale and the Jazz Ensemble will perform.<\/li>\n<li>Select rooms in the music wing will have performances of chamber music, opera and song.<\/li>\n<li>The Herbst Theatre will feature Stage Wright Broadway Divas, with musical theatre selections.<\/li>\n<li>The Stage Combat Room will feature \u201cThe Music of Billy Joel.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The theatre wing will announce and have previews of Wright State\u2019s 2024\u20132025 stage productions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_148713\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/25\/wright-states-artsgala-to-celebrate-25-years-of-supporting-fine-and-performing-arts-students\/the-25th-annual-putnam-county-spelling-bee-68674_015\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-148713\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148713\" class=\"wp-image-148713 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/03\/The-25th-Annual-Putnam-County-Spelling-Bee-68674_015-508x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-148713\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State Theatre will present highlights from the spring musical, \u201cThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee\u201d in the Festival Playhouse.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Besides sponsorships and patron ticket sales, scholarship funds are generated by a silent auction, which this year features nearly 70 items ranging from $2,500 gift cards from ArtsGala sponsor Morris Home Furniture to an all-inclusive four-day trip to Mexico for $2,500 to a $25 gift bag of puzzles and games for children.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/e.givesmart.com\/events\/Aue\/i\/\">items can be viewed online<\/a>, and bidding will occur on the evening of ArtsGala. Bidders will be updated through text messages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be at ArtsGala to bid,\u201d said Becca Webb, the director of enrollment management and community engagement for the College of Liberal Arts. \u201cWe\u2019ll be adding items up to the day of ArtsGala.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the <a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/11\/25th-artsgala-features-original-artwork-by-wright-state-students-in-silent-auction\/\">art up for auction are works<\/a> by senior Jenna Suggs\u2019s black-and-white woodcut print entitled \u201cBridge at Lewisburg\u201d and sophomore Alexis McCormick\u2019s untitled acrylic on canvas painting. Suggs, McCormick and other students will be on hand to talk about their creations, their Wright State experience and how they have benefited from ArtsGala scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Another facet of the auction is \u201cBuy It Now,\u201d in which patrons can buy bottles of wine for $45, with the possibility of the wine being worth more, and buy snow globes featuring Rowdy Raider, the Alumni Tower or the Creative Arts Center.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_148719\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/25\/wright-states-artsgala-to-celebrate-25-years-of-supporting-fine-and-performing-arts-students\/63089-becca-webb-artsgala-4-1-23-12\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-148719\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148719\" class=\"wp-image-148719 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/03\/ArtsGala-63039_287-508x339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-148719\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ArtsGala patrons can enjoy many themed dining buffets and other food and drink.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Patrons can buy dance shoes or special soles that will go to dance or musical theatre students. And patrons can \u201cadopt\u201d a student from the art, dance, motion picture, music, or theatre programs.
