{"id":149254,"date":"2024-04-11T09:28:28","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T13:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=149254"},"modified":"2024-04-12T08:54:14","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T12:54:14","slug":"artwork-by-graduating-wright-states-fine-arts-students-graces-walls-of-stein-galleries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/11\/artwork-by-graduating-wright-states-fine-arts-students-graces-walls-of-stein-galleries\/","title":{"rendered":"Artwork by graduating Wright State fine arts students graces walls of Stein Galleries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_149260\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/11\/artwork-by-graduating-wright-states-fine-arts-students-graces-walls-of-stein-galleries\/senior-thesis-exhibition-2024\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-149260\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149260\" class=\"wp-image-149260 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/04\/Senior-Thesis-Exhibition-2024-508x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-149260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Stein Galleries will host a reception for the Senior Thesis Exhibition, featuring works by 16 graduating fine arts students, on Sunday, April 14, from 3 to 5 p.m.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Fine art routinely graces the walls of the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/art-galleries\">Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries<\/a> in Wright State University\u2019s Creative Arts Center, but this time of year the gallery features works that are special in their own way.<\/p>\n<p>In the gallery&#8217;s upper level are scores of paintings, photographs, prints, drawings and sculptures by 16 graduating fine art students in the annual Senior Thesis Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is the culmination of the students\u2019 academic careers, a graduation requirement for Wright State\u2019s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art program and provides other valuable lessons.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Thesis Exhibition is on display through April 27. The gallery will host a reception on Sunday, April 14, from 3 to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is open for public viewing during gallery hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is curated by Kim Vito, professor of art and head of printmaking, and Benjamin Montague, associate professor in photography, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\">School of Fine and Performing Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s quite a bit of work in this show,\u201d Montague said. \u201cIt takes up the entire second floor of the gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_149258\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/11\/artwork-by-graduating-wright-states-fine-arts-students-graces-walls-of-stein-galleries\/senior-thesis-exhibition-2024-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-149258\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149258\" class=\"wp-image-149258 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/04\/Senior-Thesis-Exhibition-2024-2-260x290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-149258\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cBlock Tower,\u201d by Sarah Williams, who has seven works in the Senior Thesis Exhibition.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFor the students, it\u2019s a great way to showcase the work they\u2019ve done,\u201d he said, \u201cand it\u2019s a really good culminating experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some students,\u201d Vito said, \u201cthis is the first time they have participated in a gallery exhibition. It gives them a solid foundation of what to expect from other venues in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each student submitted up to 10 pieces that the fine arts faculty reviewed and selected for the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome will frame their work and others take their work somewhere to have it professionally framed,\u201d Vito said. \u201cFaculty provide feedback and offer workshops, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional, to demonstrate how to present the work in a professional manner. After this is complete, the seniors are required to hang their work in the gallery space, learning and using the standards required for hanging and presenting artwork in a professional space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The learning opportunities through the exhibition are not lost on the seniors whose work is featured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very cool experience to have your work professionally matted and framed and to hang it in a gallery yourself,\u201d said Victoria Chapman, a fine arts major with a concentration in photography from Urbana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s good knowledge to have,\u201d said Chapman, who has five photos exhibited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m jazzed to have my art in the Stein Galleries,\u201d said Sarah Williams, a fine arts major with a painting concentration from Dayton.
