{"id":150560,"date":"2024-05-24T08:31:26","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T12:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=150560"},"modified":"2024-05-23T16:48:46","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T20:48:46","slug":"wright-state-motion-pictures-student-screens-documentary-at-cleveland-international-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/05\/24\/wright-state-motion-pictures-student-screens-documentary-at-cleveland-international-film-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State motion pictures student screens documentary at Cleveland International Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?attachment_id=150571\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-150571\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-150571\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/05\/CommuniTea-film-508x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>Nathanael Blair\u2019s documentary about a bubble tea purveyor did not receive an award like \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d the 2024 Best Picture Oscar winner, but he came away from the Cleveland International Film Festival feeling like the title of a 1979 Oscar winner, \u201cBeing There.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair, who entering his senior year as a <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/fine-and-performing-arts\/bachelor-of-arts-or-bachelor-of-fine-arts-in-motion-pictures\">motion picture major<\/a> at Wright State University, was invited to present his documentary \u201cIt\u2019s in the CommuniTea!\u201d in April at the Cleveland festival, where winning entries qualify for consideration for the Oscars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust being there was a shock,\u201d said Blair. \u201cBeing there was a great enough honor. It was a big leap from not being in any festival to being in one of the largest in the region and an Oscar-qualifying one. It was overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair was invited to submit \u201cIt\u2019s in the CommuniTea!\u201d as part of a special group of students who are trying to grow their own craft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me to see so many people at such a prestigious event come to watch a film I had made, it really hit me. Truthfully, it was kind of emotional,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Blair was joined at the festival by the subject of his documentary, Nicole Cornett, who owns and operates Billie Gold Bubble Tea from a food truck and a Dayton storefront.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfterwards, we were called to the stage for a brief Q&amp;A with the other filmmakers, discussing our process and any future projects we are working on,\u201d Blair said. \u201cThe whole time was a bit of a whirlwind, but I am so grateful for the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blair\u2019s seven-and-a-half-minute-long film follows the story of Cornett, her business and her connection to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat makes her different is her personality and how she sees customers as friends,\u201d Blair said.<\/p>\n<p>Her story took a dramatic turn when she discovered that a $5,000 generator for her food truck had been stolen. Her customers quickly came forward, donating money for a replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Blair is not the only one in his family with an interest in film.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?attachment_id=150575\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-150575\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-150575\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/05\/Nicole-Cornett-CommuniTea-508x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>His sister, Hannah, earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in motion picture production from Wright State in 2019.
