{"id":150719,"date":"2024-05-30T15:53:41","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T19:53:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=150719"},"modified":"2024-05-30T15:53:41","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T19:53:41","slug":"wyso-public-radio-wright-state-students-on-trip-save-a-life-at-yellowstone-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/05\/30\/wyso-public-radio-wright-state-students-on-trip-save-a-life-at-yellowstone-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"WYSO Public Radio: Wright State students on trip save a life at Yellowstone National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/05\/30\/wyso-public-radio-wright-state-students-on-trip-save-a-life-at-yellowstone-national-park\/pic10-59\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-150723\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-150723\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/05\/Pic10-1-508x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>Good timing and lifeguard skills helped two Wright State University students save a woman\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>This spring during a trip to Yellowstone National Park, Hannah Mesa and Silas Hoam were leading a group to the natural hot springs.<\/p>\n<p>They saw a woman having a seizure in a nearby cold pool.<\/p>\n<p>They stabilized her and tended to her injuries until the EMTs arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Both Wright State students have worked as lifeguards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what would\u2019ve happened if we were not there because there were not any lifeguards on duty,\u201d Mesa said in a press release from the university. \u201cThat woman could\u2019ve absolutely drowned if we were not there to help her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright State\u2019s Outdoor Resource Center organized the trip.<\/p>\n<p>Erin Compaleo, assistant director of outdoor recreation, said the guides were at the right place at the right time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of our trip leaders are certified in wilderness first aid and luckily these two trip leaders were also certified as lifeguards,\u201d said Compaleo.<\/p>\n<p>Eight Wright State students and two guests participated in the nine-day trip to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt national parks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyso.org\/news\/2024-05-29\/wright-state-students-on-trip-save-a-life-at-yellowstone-national-park\">Read the full story on wyso.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good timing and lifeguard skills helped two Wright State University students save a woman\u2019s life.
