(Photo by Erin Pence)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University Theatre students and faculty members were saluted for their standout performances in a roundup of the best Miami Valley productions in 2023\u201324 by the Dayton Daily News.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daytondailynews.com\/lifestyles\/saluting-daytons-2023-24-theater-season-our-list-of-the-best\/MOKKD6OXCVCMXHRUNCUW37QFAQ\/\">article reviewing the theatre season<\/a>, Russell Florence Jr., the team leader\/coordinator of the Dayton Daily News Lifestyles and Dayton.com, included Wright State Theatre\u2019s productions as among the region\u2019s best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWright State University bolstered its reputation as a leading producer of musical theatre in the region due to its Broadway-caliber \u2018Cabaret\u2019 starring the astounding Kendra Lodewyk as Sally Bowles. There was also double bliss in WSU\u2019s double cast, utterly charming \u2018The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee\u2019 and the dynamic double bill of \u2018A Doll\u2019s House\u2019 and \u2018A Doll\u2019s House, Part 2,\u2019\u201d said Florence, who earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in mass communications from Wright State.<\/p>\n<p>Florence named Wright State Theatre\u2019s productions of \u201cA Doll\u2019s House,\u201d \u201cA Doll\u2019s House, Part 2,\u201d and \u201cCabaret\u201d as the best area university productions in the 2023\u201324 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Doll\u2019s House\u201d and \u201cA Doll\u2019s House, Part 2,\u201d were named the Best Collegiate Productions of a Play. The plays were directed by Marya Spring Cordes, professor in acting and musical theatre and artistic director of Wright State Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State\u2019s productions of \u201cBy the Bog of Cats\u201d and \u201cThe Liar\u201d were also nominated for best collegiate play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCabaret\u201d was named the Best Collegiate Production of a Musical. It was directed by Greg Hellems, professor and head of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre program, who was honored for Best Direction of a Musical.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State\u2019s productions of \u201cThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee\u201d and \u201cKelly The Destroyer vs. The Springfield Cobras\u201d were also nominated for best collegiate musical.<\/p>\n<div productions.<\/p>\n<p>Kendra Lodewyk, who graduated in 2024 with a B.F.A. in Acting with a concentration in musical theatre, was honored as the Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance as Sally Bowles in \u201cCabaret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Acting major Alexis Wentworth was honored for the Breakthrough Female Performance in a Play for her portrayal of Nora Helmer in \u201cA Doll\u2019s House, Part 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musical theatre major James Newton was honored for the Breakthrough Male Performance in a Musical for his portrayal of William Barfee in \u201cThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Pabst, instructor of dance, was recognized for Best Choreography and James Dunlap, audio coordinator and resident sound designer, was honored for Best Sound Design of a Musical for \u201cCabaret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zoe Still, instructor of costume design, was honored for Best Costume Design of a Play for \u201cThe Liar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Benjamin, professor of theatre and head of the theatre design and technology program, was honored for Best Lighting Design of a Play for \u201cBy the Bog of Cats\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_151776\" style=\"width:
