(Photo by Kris Sproles)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The second Dayton bioManufacturing Awareness and Discovery Experience (DaytonMADE) camp took place in <a href=\"https:\/\/science-math.wright.edu\/biochemistry-and-molecular-biology\">Wright State University\u2019s<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>biochemistry and molecular biology<\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>lab for two separate two-week sessions. The first session took place from June 3 to June 14 and the second from July 8 to July 19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe camps are aimed at serving students that may not have had previous experience in STEM or STEM outreach in the area,\u201d Michael Schmidt, Ph.D., an assistant professor of<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>biochemistry and molecular biology<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>at Wright State, who served as an instructor at the DaytonMADE camp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Twenty-two Dayton-area high school students learned about various biotechnology techniques, met with scientists in the biotechnology field, toured a biomanufacturing facility and received a glimpse of what it\u2019s like to be a Wright State student.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe students learned a lot about laboratory techniques, biomanufacturing jobs and also college life,\u201d said Schmidt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Registration and transportation to and from the camp were free.
