{"id":153611,"date":"2024-09-19T09:13:28","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T13:13:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=153611"},"modified":"2025-07-15T09:45:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T13:45:50","slug":"wall-street-journal-ranks-wright-state-top-public-university-in-ohio-for-social-mobility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/09\/19\/wall-street-journal-ranks-wright-state-top-public-university-in-ohio-for-social-mobility\/","title":{"rendered":"Wall Street Journal ranks Wright State top public university in Ohio for social mobility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/09\/19\/wall-street-journal-ranks-wright-state-top-public-university-in-ohio-for-social-mobility\/wright_state_badges_social-mobility-public\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-153626\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-153626\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/09\/Wright_State_Badges_Social-Mobility-Public-508x508.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a>Wright State University was ranked the top public university in Ohio for social mobility in the Wall Street Journal\u2019s 2025 America\u2019s Best Colleges rankings.<\/p>\n<p>The social mobility ranking, which acknowledges how much a university enhances students\u2019 social mobility after graduation, considers the number of years it takes to pay off the net tuition price, how much a university boosts its graduates\u2019 salaries, the proportion of students at the university who receive Pell Grants and the graduation rates of those students.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State ranked No. 3 for students\u2019 social mobility among all private and public colleges and universities in Ohio, just behind Muskingum University and Ohio Northern University, but ahead of all public institutions including Ohio State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWright State is committed to providing all students with access to a high-quality education, no matter what walk of life they come from, and helping them get across the finish line with a degree,\u201d said Wright State President Sue Edwards. \u201cThe Wall Street Journal\u2019s social mobility ranking recognizes how impactful a Wright State degree can be for our students and acknowledges that the investment in a degree from Wright State pays social and economic dividends for a lifetime and changes the trajectory of a student\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 40% of first-time undergraduate students at Wright State for the fall 2024 semester are Pell Grant recipients. Overall, 2,983 undergraduate students at Wright State, or 39.2%, are Pell Grant recipients, exceeding the national average of 34%, according to 2023 data from the Educational Data Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/enrollment-services\/financial-aid\/take-flight-program\">Take Flight Program<\/a>, which provides eligible students with a tuition-free education, continues to be a success, with 245 students in the program\u2019s third cohort, a 52% increase in students since it launched in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal ranked Wright State highly in several other categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No. 2 in best salaries among public universities in Ohio<\/li>\n<li>No. 4 in best value among public universities in Ohio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best salaries ranking reflects the impact a university has on its graduates\u2019 salaries in relation to tuition, while the best value ranking is based on the years it takes graduates to pay off their university\u2019s net tuition price.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal\u2019s America&#8217;s Best Colleges 2025 rankings recognize universities doing an outstanding job in higher education.
