{"id":155256,"date":"2024-11-06T09:02:27","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T14:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=155256"},"modified":"2024-11-06T09:02:27","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T14:02:27","slug":"food-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/11\/06\/food-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Food run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the sixth consecutive year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/public-safety\/police\">Wright State University Police Department<\/a> organized in a No-Shave November fundraising effort that benefited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/student-affairs\/resources-and-support\/raider-food-pantry\">Raider Food Pantry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Nov. 4, officers filled their police cruisers with items purchased from Sam\u2019s Club in Beavercreek, then donated to the pantry almost $1,800 worth of nonperishable goods, including chicken noodle soup, beef stew, cereal, peanut butter crackers and much-needed bottled water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis year we had the entire department involved,\u201d said Kurt Holden, chief of police and director of public safety at Wright State. \u201cAnswering the need in our community is what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every officer and staff member in the Wright State Police Department participated by donating $100 with an option to grow their facial hair, wear colorful hair accessories or paint their nails during November.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Officer Stefan Kempf was voted as having the best-looking beard by the Police Department staff. Kempf said the department\u2019s mission to help ensure students have a meal also helps them in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cNo one is going to be studying well if they\u2019re hungry,\u201d said Kempf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over the past six years, the Police Department has donated more than $16,000 in groceries and money to the Raider Food Pantry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tylar O\u2019Neal-White, a student case manager in Counselling and Wellness Services, oversees the Raider Food Pantry, which serves around 100 Wright State students every month. The donations from the Police Department arrived just in time to restock the pantry\u2019s dwindling supplies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWith them donating as much as they do, it really pushes us through to the spring semester,\u201d said O\u2019Neal-White<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Wright State Raider Food Pantry serves all students in need of emergency food assistance. The food pantry is open to any Wright State student enrolled in classes for the current term.
