{"id":155352,"date":"2024-11-12T10:17:26","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T15:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=155352"},"modified":"2024-11-13T11:17:13","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T16:17:13","slug":"wright-states-stein-galleries-to-present-exhibition-by-new-york-painter-simon-carr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2024\/11\/12\/wright-states-stein-galleries-to-present-exhibition-by-new-york-painter-simon-carr\/","title":{"rendered":"Retrospective exhibition by New York painter Simon Carr on display at Wright State\u2019s Stein Galleries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_155341\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/earlyspring_ridinglesson_by_simoncarr\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-155341\" class=\"size-large wp-image-155341\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2024\/11\/EarlySpring_RidingLesson_by_SimonCarr-508x305.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-155341\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Early Spring (Riding Lesson),&#8221; 2023, by Simon Carr.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/art-galleries\">Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries<\/a> will present a retrospective exhibition of works by New York painter Simon Carr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimon Carr: Just Beyond Seen, Paintings and Drawings 2007-2024\u201d is on display from Nov. 12 to Dec. 14 in the Stein Galleries, 160 Creative Arts Center on Wright State\u2019s Dayton Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery will host an artist talk and opening reception on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Curated by Glen Cebulash, professor of art at Wright State, the exhibition showcases a retrospective of works by Carr, an artist who lives and works in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Carr\u2019s recent paintings, drawings and prints have focused on street and subway scenes, landscapes of upstate New York and animals in the landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn ongoing curatorial interest for me is the work of second- and third-generation New York School figurative artists,\u201d Cebulash said. \u201cSimon Carr\u2019s paintings and drawings exemplify that tradition, which is grounded in a commitment to form and color as a means of humane expression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carr has exhibited widely, most recently at the Bowery Gallery in New York, Westbeth Gallery, The Painting Center, Prince Street Gallery and Long Island University&#8217;s Selena Gallery.
