Wright State University makes the safety of these students and possessions a top priority, so that students are free to focus on attaining those hopes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are one of the safest campuses in the area,\u201d said Sergeant Patrick Ammon, crime prevention manager for the Wright State University Police Department, which has a full staff of trained police officers and a pair of special K-9 dogs. \u201cThe campus, however, can only be as safe as we, the entire campus, make it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the safety enforced by the university\u2019s officers, the university employs an emergency notification system, WSU Alert, to safeguard the campus community from anticipated and unexpected threats. Depending on the type of emergency, WSU Alert may provide information and messaging through some or all of the established channels, including building notification systems, email, text\/voice messages, radio and television, the university\u2019s homepage, information telephone lines, and social media.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15589\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2012\/08\/30\/safety-is-as-safety-does\/newsroom_wsualert_badge-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15589\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15589\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15589\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2012\/08\/newsroom_wsualert_badge-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WSU Alert is the university&#039;s emergency notification system, and uses a variety of communication vehicles to inform and alert the campus community.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whether from the densely crowded areas of the city or the rural outskirts of farm country, students can help to ensure the safety of their belongings\u2014and more importantly, themselves. Follow these guidelines to make sure you stay new and shiny, with your new and shiny items still in your possession.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Know how to find help when in danger<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Call Wright State\u2019s Police Communications Center, (937) 775-2111\u2014Save this number as a contact in your cell phone and add it to speed dial<\/li>\n<li>Call 9-1-1 from a campus office or classroom phone<\/li>\n<li>Hit the red button on the exterior blue phones or the interior emergency phones, which connects you directly to the Police Communications Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get WSU Alert messages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opt in to receive text\/voice messages through WINGS Express (Sign in to WINGS at <a href=\"http:\/\/wings.wright.edu\">http:\/\/wings.wright.edu<\/a>, click on the WINGS Express icon, click on Personal Information, then click on Manage WSU Alert \u2013 Emergency crimes to the police immediately\u2014don\u2019t second guess yourself<\/li>\n<li>Be alert and conscious of your surroundings at all times<\/li>\n<li>Lock the doors of your vehicle, apartment, or dorm room<\/li>\n<li>Keep valuables out of sight and\/or locked up when not in use<\/li>\n<li>Trust your instincts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a class<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Active Shooter Response, A.L.I.C.E.<\/li>\n<li>Women\u2019s Self-Defense Awareness, S.A.F.E. and R.A.D. are both offered<\/li>\n<li>Theft prevention or any other program needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To inquire services such as vehicle jumpstarts and vehicle unlocks, which are free<\/li>\n<li>Safety Escorts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (Delays are possible depending on priority calls)<\/li>\n<li>Crime
