Motion pictures alum Brittany Shyne talked to WDTN 2 News about winning the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still kind of processing it. You know, it\u2019s obviously incredible and it\u2019s a very huge acknowledgment, you know. And I\u2019m really grateful for it, but like, it\u2019s like every day I\u2019m like, wow, this really happened, you know?\u201d Shyne said.<\/p>\n

She directed, shot and produced the feature documentary \u201cSeeds,\u201d the Sundance festival jury\u2019s pick for best documentary feature.<\/p>\n

The film is about generational and legacy farmers in the southern United States, specifically centennial farmers, or those who\u2019ve owned their land for at least 100 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo really it\u2019s about, you know, the continuation of these family farms and who\u2019s going to take over, but also showing like the intergenerational connectedness with this film,\u201d Shyne said.<\/p>\n

Shyne says two big motivators for completing this film were her parents\u2019 guidance and the need to present the story of \u201cSeeds\u201d to the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so many black stories that kind of can get lost, you know, or not duly acknowledged. And I found that there\u2019s something very profound about this story, about legacy, the maintenance of legacy, you know, you\u2019re archiving, so things are not being forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, post Grand Jury Prize Award, and alongside burgeoning praise, \u201cSeeds,\u201d remains on a festival tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe film\u2019s going to be on the festival circuit throughout this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shyne will\u00a0next\u00a0show the film at the True\/False Film Festival in Missouri before traveling to Greece and Copenhagen.<\/p>\n
