{"id":157681,"date":"2025-03-20T11:46:45","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=157681"},"modified":"2025-03-21T14:25:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T18:25:38","slug":"12-local-students-win-full-tuition-scholarships-to-wright-state-at-big-hoopla-stem-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/20\/12-local-students-win-full-tuition-scholarships-to-wright-state-at-big-hoopla-stem-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"12 local students win full-tuition scholarships to Wright State at Big Hoopla STEM Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State University, a proud sponsor of the Big Hoopla\u2019s STEM Challenge, awarded full-in-state tuition scholarships to 12 students at the STEM Challenge event on March 16 in the Student Union.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The students were also recognized during the NCAA First Four games on March 18.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Families and students were thrilled to learn they had earned full-tuition scholarships to Wright State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cJoy, a lot of joy,\u201d said Demetrius Taylor, whose son Ezekiel was awarded a full-tuition scholarship because of his love for basketball. \u201cThis makes us really excited for his future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State President Sue Edwards highlighted the university\u2019s commitment to inspiring young learners in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWright State is excited to inspire young learners\u2019 love of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through our partnership with the Big Hoopla\u2019s STEM Challenge,\u201d Edwards said. \u201cWright State is proud to award these life-changing scholarships to 12 promising students as part of our commitment to developing our region\u2019s next generation of innovators and leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State partnered with the Big Hoopla to introduce students to STEM concepts through engaging activities and demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The annual STEM Challenge attracted 1,500 children to Wright State to explore science shows and hands-on STEM exhibits presented by regional and national partners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBasketball is the perfect draw to get kids involved with STEM,\u201d said Kevin Cornell, a two-time Wright State graduate known as Mister C, who performed science experiments at the event.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_157689\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/20\/12-local-students-win-full-tuition-scholarships-to-wright-state-at-big-hoopla-stem-challenge\/hoopla-stem-checks\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-157689\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-157689\" class=\"size-large wp-image-157689\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2025\/03\/hoopla-STEM-checks-508x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"206\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-157689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 12 students who were awarded full-in-state tuition scholarships to Wright State were recognized during the NCAA First Four games on March 18.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wright State awarded full in-state tuition scholarships to basketball shootout winners: a male and female student in each grade division (K\u20132, 3\u20134, 5\u20136 and 7\u20138). Four additional winners were randomly selected through a raffle.
