{"id":158037,"date":"2025-03-31T10:08:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T14:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=158037"},"modified":"2025-03-31T10:22:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T14:22:36","slug":"five-wright-state-students-face-wolves-for-startup-funds-in-annual-entrepreneurial-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/31\/five-wright-state-students-face-wolves-for-startup-funds-in-annual-entrepreneurial-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Wright State students face Wolves for startup funds in annual entrepreneurial competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_158048\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/31\/five-wright-state-students-face-wolves-for-startup-funds-in-annual-in-annual-entrepreneurial-competition\/18748-adam-wik-wright-venture-finale-3-28-17-6\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-158048\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-158048\" class=\"wp-image-158048 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2025\/03\/Wright-Venture-18748_087-508x295.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-158048\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State students will pitch their business plans to a panel of three local entrepreneurs during Wright Venture on April 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Five Wright State University students will present their innovative business ideas to a panel of industry experts, known as the \u201cWolves,\u201d in the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/event\/wright-venture\">Wright Venture competition<\/a>, vying for $5,000 in startup funds.<\/p>\n<p>This entrepreneurial event, hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wright.edu\/\">Raj Soin College of Business<\/a>, is modeled after the \u201cShark Tank\u201d reality show.<\/p>\n<p>The students will make their business pitches to a panel of three local entrepreneurs in the Student Union Atrium on Thursday, April 3, from 2 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>After being held in Rike Hall for several years, the Wright Venture finals will return to a larger, more accessible space to encourage more students, faculty and staff to attend.<\/p>\n<p>The students and their projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BFF Connect, a digital app to improve social connection and mental health well-being, by Ugboaku Chukwudi, a graduate student studying public health.<\/li>\n<li>Lewen, which provides real-time policy status of insurance data, by Michael Mathews, an MBA student.<\/li>\n<li>Kyantra, software to improve the productivity of shared kitchens, food trucks and small- to medium-sized restaurants, by Tharun Nandingam, a graduate student in computer science.<\/li>\n<li>Mint Auto Spa, a mobile detailing service for vehicles, by Mina Marion, an international business major.<\/li>\n<li>ZUZU, a service to help international students transition into American life, by Vani Kombaiah, a graduate student in social and applied economics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These five projects were the finalists from nine submitted by students for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next generation is now, and Wright Venture is here to hone the entrepreneurial potential of students,\u201d said Jerry Stewart, president of the Entrepreneurship Club, one of the event\u2019s organizers. \u201cCongratulations to the participants. They have taken a significant step to greatness. In my eyes, they are all winners. I\u2019m looking forward to a memorable event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright Venture encourages entrepreneurial thinking and activity and allows students to use what they have learned in class. It reflects an actual business startup, including mentorship, networking, idea development, product design, financial management and marketing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterested students attend entrepreneurial workshops in January and February to learn more about small business planning, finance, operations, and marketing, in preparation for Wright Venture presentations,\u201d said Kendall Goodrich, Ph.D., professor of marketing and chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wright.edu\/supply-chain-management-marketing-and-management\">School of Supply Chain, Marketing and Management<\/a> in the Raj Soin College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>The budding entrepreneurs have prepared their April 3 presentations through a series of entrepreneurial workshops, led by Wright State faculty and local experts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery business in this world needs exposure and this is what the Wright Venture competition provides,\u201d said Stewart, who is pursuing a master\u2019s degree in logistics and supply chain management. \u201cIt nurtures your potential and gives you a platform to compete, learn and fail forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being in the Student Union Atrium will &#8220;create a more vibrant environment for greater audience participation.
