The crack of aluminum bats echoed through Nischwitz Stadium as dozens of young athletes participated in Wright State University\u2019s annual baseball camp from July 7 to 10.<\/p>\n
The excitement on the field matched the buzz surrounding Wright State\u2019s baseball<\/a> program after a standout 2025 season.<\/p>\n \u201cIt definitely seems like there are more kids at the camp since Wright State had such a good season,\u201d said Ryan Bucholtz, a 2007 Wright State graduate who brought his 12-year-old son to the camp. \u201cHe wants to play for Wright State one day.\u201d<\/p>\n Head Coach Alex Sogard said the Raiders\u2019 win over Vanderbilt<\/a> in the 2025 NCAA Regional Tournament generated increased attention for the program and its players.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of these kids watch the games on TV and now they get to see the players in person \u2014 it\u2019s a special deal,\u201d said Sogard.<\/p>\n That same energy carried over to other Wright State youth camps this summer. The Nike Soccer Camp at Alumni Field, held July 14\u201317, and the youth basketball camps at the Nutter Center, held June 16\u201320, also drew enthusiastic crowds.<\/p>\n Charlie Carpenter, a junior midfielder on the men\u2019s soccer team<\/a>, said most campers got to practice on Wright State\u2019s new turf field for the first time.<\/p>\n \u201cYou play in grass and it\u2019s bumpy, and then you come out here and it\u2019s brand-new turf and a phenomenal facility,\u201d said Carpenter.<\/p>\n Sogard said the youth camps are not only about developing fundamentals but also about creating a fun and memorable experience for campers and his student-athletes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Young athletes flocked to Wright State\u2019s baseball, soccer and basketball camps this summer, energized by the university\u2019s athletic success and upgraded facilities.
