Ajani Ross, lecturer of physics.<\/p><\/div>\n

Although he\u2019s stayed close to home to ply his trade, Springfield native Ajani Ross, Ph.D., has his sights set firmly on the stars.<\/p>\n

A lecturer of physics at Wright State University, Ross received the 2024\u201325 Presidential Award for Outstanding Non-Tenure Eligible Faculty: Teaching.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Ross is an exemplary teacher who goes beyond the requirements of his position to enhance the education of our students and the reputation of Wright State,\u201d said Ivan Medvedev, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Physics. \u201cHis contributions are truly transformative and are felt by many students within Wright State well beyond physics. Dr. Ross is known for his well-organized lectures and being approachable to students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since joining the faculty in the Department of Physics<\/a> in 2014, Ross has continuously expanded the physics curriculum through innovative course design and hands-on learning. He has developed several in-demand courses, including Astronomy and Physics of Flight, both of which are highly popular among students from a variety of disciplines.<\/p>\n

Ross also played a key role in redesigning the undergraduate physics program, transforming it into an industry-immersive, experiential training model. He also developed two popular online courses and supported the new aviation program in the College of Health, Education and Human Services by creating the Physics of Flight course.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis passion for physics, sciences and pedagogical excellence are both inspiring and empowering to the students and faculty,\u201d Medvedev said.<\/p>\n

Ross\u2019s commitment to student success extends beyond the classroom. He has served as the director of internships and co-ops for the College of Science and Mathematics and advises the Astronomy Club and the Society of Physics Students. He is also the faculty mentor for the Wright State chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society.<\/p>\n

Robert Lysinger, a 2025 graduate and former president of the Society of Physics Students, said Ross represents the best that the Department of Physics has to offer.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Ajani Ross has been an incredible instructor and mentor to me during my time as an undergrad at Wright State,\u201d Lysinger said. \u201cAs a professor, he\u2019s managed to present difficult material to the class in a way that doesn\u2019t intimidate. He has always offered exactly what I needed to hear when I asked about research, academics and career help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in physics from Wright State and a master\u2019s degree and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Arlington.<\/p>\n

Now back where his academic journey began, he continues to elevate the Wright State student experience through innovative teaching and tireless dedication.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
