He later transitioned into an adjunct instructor role before joining the faculty full-time in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Herick has played a key leadership role in the department \u2014 a commitment that earned him the 2024\u201325 Presidential Award for Outstanding Non-Tenure Eligible Faculty: Service.<\/p>\n<p>A proud Wright State alumnus, Herick brought with him more than three decades of classroom and leadership experience in local schools. In his first year as a full-time faculty member, he was appointed program director for elementary education. By 2023, he had expanded his responsibilities to also lead the middle childhood education program, managing both while continuing to teach, mentor and support future educators.<\/p>\n<p>Known for his commitment to service and student success, Herick has led efforts that strengthened the department\u2019s academic offerings and professional development initiatives. He played a key role in securing and implementing Science of Reading grants that enhanced the curriculum. He also organized impactful events like the Literacy Launch Conferences and the Math Passion Project Expo, creating valuable learning and networking opportunities for students and educators.<\/p>\n<p>Herick\u2019s influence reaches beyond Wright State. He serves on the Ohio Department of Higher Education\u2019s P\u20138 Standards Panel, where his contributions have helped position Wright State as a leader in teacher preparation reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have witnessed first-hand Mr. Herick\u2019s unwavering dedication to service, leadership and mentorship within the Department of Teacher Education and across the broader university community,\u201d said Marty Sexton, Ph.D., dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/health-education-human-services.wright.edu\/\">College of Health, Education and Human Services<\/a>. \u201cHis remarkable contributions to program development, student support and community engagement exemplify the highest standards of service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A proud Wright State alumnus, Herick holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in political science and business, a teaching certification in elementary education, a master\u2019s degree in educational leadership and a licensure in educational leadership. He is also a dedicated supporter of Wright State basketball.<\/p>\n<p>Colleagues and students alike praise Herick not only for his accomplishments but also for his approachable and supportive leadership style.
