Hannah Beachler, a 2005 graduate of Wright State\u2019s Motion Pictures Program, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Production Design for her work on \u201cSinners.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

Wright State University graduate Hannah Beachler\u00a0earned her second Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Production Design\u00a0on the blockbuster film \u201cSinners.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beachler, a 2005 graduate of Wright State\u2019s Motion Pictures Program, has also been nominated for an Art Directors Guild Award for production design in a period feature film.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As production designer on “Sinners,” Beachler helped bring to life director Ryan Coogler\u2019s Southern Gothic vampire thriller. The film made Oscar history with 16 total nominations, more than any other film in Academy Award history.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The nomination marks Beachler\u2019s second Oscar\u00a0nod. She made history in 2019 as the first Black woman to win an Academy Award for Best Production Design\u00a0on\u00a0Coogler\u2019s\u00a0\u201cBlack Panther.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beachler\u2019s\u00a0work on\u00a0\u201cSinners\u201d\u00a0has already garnered critical acclaim, earning her the Best Production Design\u00a0Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSinners\u201d is the fifth film Beachler has worked on with Coogler. She was also the production designer for Coogler\u2019s films \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever,\u201d \u201cCreed\u201d and \u201cFruitvale Station,\u201d which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film and the Audience Award for Best Film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her production design credits also include \u201cMiles Ahead,\u201d a biographical film based on the life of jazz musician Miles Davis, and \u201cMoonlight,\u201d which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and the Golden Globe Award for Best Drama in 2017.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beachler’s creative\u00a0accomplishments\u00a0extend beyond feature films.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, she made her Broadway debut designing an Afrofuturistic spin on\u00a0\u201cThe Wiz\u201d\u00a0revival, directed by Dayton native Schele Williams. She also received the 2017 Art Directors Guild Award for excellence in production design and art direction for her work on Beyonc\u00e9’s visual album\u00a0\u201cLemonade.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beachler has said the education she received in Wright State\u2019s\u00a0Motion Pictures Program\u00a0helped prepare her for her career\u00a0by\u00a0exposing her\u00a0to important films and literature\u00a0and giving her the foundation to collaborate with directors at\u00a0a high level.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beachler was\u00a0honored as\u00a0the\u00a02018 Alumna of the Year\u00a0by the Wright State Alumni Association.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
