{"id":163896,"date":"2026-02-18T09:13:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=163896"},"modified":"2026-02-20T14:59:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T19:59:02","slug":"wright-state-student-athletes-make-a-lasting-impact-on-local-family-more-to-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2026\/02\/18\/wright-state-student-athletes-make-a-lasting-impact-on-local-family-more-to-come\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State student-athletes make a lasting impact on local family with more to come"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Over the past year, nearly 200 Wright State University student-athletes and coaches logged close to 1,000 volunteer hours helping to build a home for a local family through Habitat for Humanity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Working in multiple build events organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/wsuraiders.com\/\">Athletics Department<\/a>, Raiders from every sport assembled all the home\u2019s wall panels, contributing 894 service hours that saved $31,102 in labor costs. Their work became part of a new house for Dayton resident Charlotte Carter and her three children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u201cAt Wright State, you get local students who go to that university, get a great education and stay here,\u201d said David Mauch, a 1995 Wright State alumnus who serves as development director for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton. \u201cThen they make our community better.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Mauch nicknamed the house the \u201cRaider Nation Home,\u201d reflecting Wright State students\u2019 involvement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Carter, who volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for over a year, received the keys to her new home from Joylynn Brown, Wright State director of athletics, while standing in her new kitchen surrounded by friends and family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThis is so important to my family,\u201d said Carter. \u201cWe thank everybody who came out to help us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Jeff Fleck, Wright State women\u2019s bowling coach, attended the dedication ceremony and was happy to see the progress made since his team helped build walls on campus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI thought I would come out and see the fruits of our labor,\u201d said Fleck. \u201cThis is incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The New Carlisle home was a collaborative effort between Wright State University, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton and Wright-Patt Credit Union.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The partnership will continue with another project this spring.
